Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: oombanjo Date: 25 Feb 04 - 03:47 PM I'd better get in early on this one.Had a meeting last Wed 17?? The agenda was. Mins of last meeting, Venues (Memorial Hall, back on.catering, (ongoing) fringe There are no changes from last years position though Hannah has not grasped that the Pubs will book their own acts eg Odies. I have spoken to most of the pubs about supporting the programme and although none were against, all would like to know the cost, I have given Hannah a list to visit. Hodgsons have booked the full line up of P.T. H.(can you confirm Ossonflags) The Tiger is back on, and with the Memorial hall being again a venue this should be well patronised.Oddies and the Sun are as usual (check Oddies for a booked act)Nellies will host the old time/Bluegrass from mid day on the Saturday, Anna has made the upstiars room avaliable to the festival "if required" The Start up dance will be again on Thursday at the Memorial Hall .Thats the fringe for now. next on the agenda Stewarding ,more required. Other items were Artists to date, "to many to put down".Education and community programme--Coming of age. Jenny may come in on this one??? and Funding. I will put in more as I am made aware. |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 25 Feb 04 - 02:56 PM Last year, when the festival proper returned, the PVFF effectively became the festival fringe. In all probability it will again this year but I,m not really involved as I'm doing a lot of work and also my wife has been ill since October and I don't have the time to go to meetings etc. Oombanjo has been representing the fringe interests at the FF meetings. Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 04 Jul 02 - 08:24 AM We are having a debriefing meeting next Tuesday 9th July, 7pm in County Hall, Beverley. This is essentially to see what worked, what didn't, what lessons we can learn and where we want to go from here. Everyone is welcome to come and have their say or post comments here or PM me with feedback and suggestions. I've set up a meeting with Chris Wade of the Beverley and East Riding folk Festival to discuss how PVFF can be built on for next year's festival. It will be on the week of 22nd July but the details are still to be settled. R |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: oombanjo Date: 03 Jul 02 - 04:25 PM A consideration! today I called in at Arther Douglases on Cherry tree lane for a salad bun or four, whilst they were being prepared I was set upon by the female members of his staff,( note. I did'nt put up a fight, but enjoyed it.) However, all had joined in at some time throught the festival, and all were off the same opinion, that for the first time it felt like a peoples festival and was there for the benefit of the people. This thought has been endorsed by all the Beverley people who have called in at their shop. They are requesting, Can it be done again next year. |

Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: nutty Date: 02 Jul 02 - 03:51 AM Perhaps all Festival Organisers should realise that, while they are worried about the logistics of getting bums on seats for concerts with artists that they spend larger amounts on each year, the success of the festival stands (or falls) on the singers and musicians who just want to get together with like-minded people and play and sing. Far too often catering for these people is an afterthought .... festivals like the PPVF show just how important they(we) are. |

Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: oombanjo Date: 29 Jun 02 - 07:27 PM I wish I had a scanner.( NOTE IF I GET THROUGH THIS I'V DONE WELL.) Just got back from a pub or two, or a few. I received a letter from David dry (Dr) this morning wishing us all his best for being invited to the best festival he has been to in years, He stayed at the Tudor Rose. Where even the landlady made comment on the fact that the fetival, and the people, left the camp site and main venue and came into the town, She felt that it was more a Beverley festival than ever before. I will bring the letter with to our next meet, it is worth publification. Those comments were only one of the issues he thought we had redeemed. |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: GUEST,Julie B at home Date: 27 Jun 02 - 07:50 PM Roger Please do feel free to quote my comments in the report. As for MK, one well-attended long-standing session (mainly tunes) is held at The Cannon pub in Newport Pagnell (north MK) every Wed at 8.30pm. The pub is in the centre of NP, on the main street, and the session is currently running in a back room as a private function until a PEL is gained, at which point it'll move back into the bar. |

Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Caz Date: 27 Jun 02 - 04:44 PM Hi Julie B and John from Hull. Have you tried the Whitby Hiring Fair. This year it is on Sunday 18 at the Football club just on the edge of town. It starts around 12 to 12.30ish and consists of around 12 different acts, each playing for about 15mins. It is free and you don't have to be an agent/folk club or festival organiser/hirer to get in. Someone said to me last year that they have been going to the Whitby fest for years and never miss the hiring fair, they think it's one of the best gigs. Check it out. We had a ball last year and it gave us an insite into what other acts were doing, their delivery etc, etc. We have our names down to perform there again this year and apart from that it realy is a great afternoons worth of entertainment. Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 27 Jun 02 - 03:38 AM Hi everyone Sorry to have been so quiet for the last few days but the work on the wonderful new Tesco development in Beverley managed to damage our phone line on Tuesday and I've been out of touch with world since then. Thanks to everyone for the responses to PVFF. We hope to have a meeting next week with the licensees and any folkies that care to come along to talk about how it went and where people want to go from here. As I said in an earlier posting we are meeting with Chris Wade in July and I want to get as complete a picture of peoples views as possible before then. Undoubtedly we tapped into a groundswell of support both locally and more widespread and, if BERFF can build on that, then Beverley should have a mega festival for years to come.I can't see the licensees not wanting to be involved again(I don't think that their accountants would let them pull out)and we have increased the number of potential venues for BERFF to use next year and beyond. Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: GUEST,Julie B at home Date: 26 Jun 02 - 04:16 PM ...Thanks for a brilliant, brilliant weekend Roger! The only drawback is that there were so many things that went on that it'll take me weeks to tell the folk back here in Milton Keynes about it all. And the post-Beverley withdrawal symptoms were so bad that I stayed in the area for a little bit longer and visited the Hessle session (The Hase) last night (Tuesday). Now, I just need to do my washing tomorrow before I set off for the Four Fools Festival in Chorley! Looking forward to Beverley in 2003 and this years Hull 'Sea Fever' Shanty festival. Planning to try Whitby too in August, now that I've got the hang of travelling northwards! It was so wonderful to meet and sing/play with Mudcatters such as Bill Sables, Smallpiper, Frank-T, MC Fat, Roger, Willa, John-from-Hull, Brid widder and many more. Simply a fantastic three days. |

Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 25 Jun 02 - 01:10 PM Hi Caz, it was great to hear you and your band (Outsider), I am really enjoying your CD, see you at The Tap session sometime.john |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Caz Date: 25 Jun 02 - 01:02 PM I just want to say A BIG WELL DONE AND THANK YOU to all who started the ball rolling, to all who jumped on the band wagon and to all who supported the PVFF. Mary thoroughly enjoyed hosting the bodhràn workshop and got 16 people along to it. Nine of those came to see us at the Beehive and it was packed all night. It was wonderful to see people coming and going as they supported as many acts as they could during the evening. We saw some friends and made some new ones. John from Hull, sorry we didn't get to Hodgsons, we got talking to some people in the audience after the gig and ended back at their spot, but I'll catch you at the Tap and Spile. Thanks for your support and tambourin playing. I don't know about the other bands and artists but if they were as well received as we were by the folkies and non-folkies, they will have had a ball and no mistake. My involvement was very little this year but if it does go ahead next year you can count on the bodhràn workshop and we'll issue leaflets and info with all our gig lists again. And I'll even help out a bit more, perhaps some admin for you? just give me shout. This was a very friendly, down to earth festival and it was on my doorstep! THANK YOU AND WELL DONE. Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: brid widder Date: 25 Jun 02 - 12:37 PM I think a second festival would be good but I believe September would mean the Leisure centre campsite would not be available... Rugby apparently... |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 25 Jun 02 - 11:46 AM Welcome Rambling Rose but where's me rock ? |
Subject: RE: PVFF Beverley Starts Friday 21st From: Les from Hull Date: 25 Jun 02 - 11:28 AM Welcome to Mudcat, rambling rose! Sorry you had to miss so much of the festival, but thanks for the stick of rock! My own view for continuing PVFF would be to have an additional festival, possibly in September (starting next year) so as not to interfere with the Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival. There's some assumptions that go along with this. We have to be sure that we can get people to volunteer their services - I'll be happy to do the posters and programme again. We also need to be sure that any sponsorship of PVFF would not stop BERFF from going ahead. We obviously need the support of the Local Authorities, and the people of Beverley. If we combine PVFF and BERFF, we will need additional camping facilities, which would mean another campsite at a local school or sports ground, or an arrangement with the commercial site just outside Beverley. BERFF has always filled the Leisure Centre field with ticket holders. |
