Subject: RE: Lyr Req: pretty little indian nappanee? / Napanee From: GUEST,Theresa Date: 06 Nov 15 - 07:39 PM This is how I was taught this song by my Indian Grandma and Mom. I don't remember parts of it but here is what I remember. Too late now but still he's wishing that he'd never gone a fishin or had met that Indian girl and said... "You are my pretty little Indian nappanee won't you take a chance and marry me. Indian Chief is my belief to a big fair wedding till he'll agree. It's true you're dark little Indian Maid but I'll sun tan to a darker shade. Wear big feathers on my head, paint my cheeks an Indian red if you would only be my little Nappanee. Soon he caught her soon he married the big chief's daughter. Happest couple that had every wed. (don't remember this part, something about love had faded...Just like any other squaw) Then papooses came in numbers (not sure about this part).....and the feathers dropped upon his head. Too late now but still he's wishing that he'd never gone a fishin or had met that Indian girl and said....You are my pretty Little Indian nappanee... (etc...then it repeats over and over.) |
