Subject: valley near highest point in Scotland From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 04 Jul 02 - 08:53 PM A friend of mine is doing a web page involving Scotland, and she wants to know the name of the valley that's below the highest mountain in Scotland. It is on the road between Glasgow and Fort William. Also, what's the name of that highest mountain? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Help: valley near highest point in Scotland From: Jock Morris Date: 04 Jul 02 - 09:31 PM The mountain is Ben Nevis and the 'valley' is Glen Nevis. Height is 4406 feet. Scott |

Subject: RE: Help: valley near highest point in Scotland From: greg stephens Date: 04 Jul 02 - 11:57 PM I think the valley you're perhaps thinking of is Glen Coe, not Glen Nevis. Your geographical description matches both, and Glen Coe is more famous because of the little contretemps that happened there. |
Subject: RE: Help: valley near highest point in Scotland From: Trevor Date: 05 Jul 02 - 04:57 AM Yes, I think you're talking about Glencoe - I think it's one word BTW. And I can jump higher than Ben Nevis (remembering primary school gag!) |

Subject: RE: Help: valley near highest point in Scotland From: BanjoRay Date: 05 Jul 02 - 06:06 AM The village and the pass are called Glencoe, the valley is called Glen Coe. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Help: valley near highest point in Scotland From: Micca Date: 05 Jul 02 - 07:08 AM Pedantry alert The glen below Ben Nevis, on the south side is as stated , Glen Nevis, but it might equally be the Southern end of The Great Glen that runs through the centre of Scotland through to Loch Ness past the base of Ben Nevis on its Northern side. I would be surprised if Leeneia meant Glencoe as it is a good many miles further south. |
