Subject: John Frankenheimer - RIP From: Fiolar Date: 08 Jul 02 - 06:20 AM One of Hollywood's great directors has died. John Frankenheimer who was 72 died of a stroke on July 6th. He had some of his greatest successes in the 1960s with such marvellous movies as "Birdman of Alcatraz" and "The Manchurian Candidate" (both in 1962);"Seven Days in May" (1964) and "The Gypsy Moths" (1969). A close friend of Robert Kennedy, he had driven him to the hotel where the senator was murdered. His career went into a sharp decline after the killing and he suffered from depression and although he continued to direct, the output was poor. His career saw an upturn in the 1990s whe he directed "Against the Wall" (1994) and "Ronin" with Robert de Niro (1998). He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a grandson. |

Subject: RE: OBIT: John Frankenheimer - RIP From: Eric the Viking Date: 08 Jul 02 - 03:00 PM I worked with him!! But only as an extra in "Grand prix" filmed at Brands hatch in 1967-With Francoise Hardy, James Garner, Eves Montrand etc. He did talk to me though (and the other extras) He said, "Get all these people on that side of the track" and you- stay here next to her"!(I have about .5 of a second on film! But I was so much younger then, I'm older than that now. |

Subject: RE: OBIT: John Frankenheimer - RIP From: Mickey191 Date: 08 Jul 02 - 03:31 PM I had the pleasure of meeting him once in Pelhamn NY.I had worked a long Sunday at a theatre, went home and was in the shower. I got a phone call from the theatre manager- I was to go back to meet someone. A friend of the manager. Needless to say, I was ticked off having to get back on a bus. It was 10:30 pm & had school in the Am. Anyway-I met Mr. Frankenheimer. He was very nice-quite handsome and we spoke for a few minutes. Loved all his Playhouse 90 works. I'm still trying to figure out why the manager had me make that trip. He directed French Conn.#2-Who did the first one? |
