Hey all. Shameless plug here. My band will be playing at a really cool local coffeehouse called "Cerredwins Coffehouse" at a local Unitarian Church this Saturday night. If anyone has the time and the inclination, I'd love to meet up with ya.

Gimme a holler if you want directions.

Wonderful Mrrzy! It'll be great to finally meet another 'Catter (to add to my list of 4: My sister, CarolC, Mmario, Seamus, and Wincing Devil).

Directions: from the DC/MD/VA beltway (I-495) take exit 28A for New Hampshire Ave. north (toward White Oak). Go about 1/2 mile and turn RIGHT onto Oak Lawn Drive. Turn right into the church parking lot. We are in the building on the left. If the lot is full there will be parking attendants to show you nearby parking.

From the beltway going where? I'd be coming up from the South, probably up 29 (hitting the beltway at 66) or up 95, hitting the beltway at 395. If I come up 66, do I head North? If I come up 95, do I go West? Assume imbecility, please.

29 North to 66 (east?) to 495 to go around DC on the west side

When you come in on I-66, take the Beltway north/"inner loop" (toward Tysons Corner and Rockville). If you're coming up I-95, it's almost even/steven which way you go--almost exactly halfway around the Betlway, but going toward Rockville.Tysons Corner (marked "West") might be a mile or two shorter. The exit for the Silver Spring Unitraian Universalist Church is marked 28A no matter which way you're circling about DC. MD 650/New Hampshire Avenue North "White Oak".

Mrrzy...if you hit the beltway at 66, you would be 'best' going right whic takes you east then curves north towards 'Richmond' (it may say 'Richmond' at some point...which makes no sense, except that the beltway in this direction takes you to I-95 south )...in any case take outer loop, 95/495,(NOT toward Tysons Corner)...go across the Wilson bridge and around until you see N. Hampshire Ave and take 1st exit heading north.

the thing is, it is not very much different either way ...I-66 is almost 180 degrees from the exit you want, so you will hit N Hampshire Ave no matter what you do,(but if you did go 'left' and around on the inner loop, you would take the 2nd N. Hapmshire exit)

*grin*...Charlie is our local map GURU...he is AAA in a folkie hat...it never pays to dispute him!...but as he says, it is a toss-up from some places....(It is maybe 6-7 miles from I-66 to I-95 going east)..personally, I think west, like Charlie says, is the 'easier' drive, but it may be 'clearer' going east. Hey, it's a circle, you can't miss it!

Well, the Beltway is a circle and you're just about half way where you will intersect, so what Charlies said is dead on.

I *will* add however, that I have had a *lot* more trouble taking the Wilson bridge (outer loop towards Alexandria) than I've had crossing the Legion Memorial bridge (inner loop towards Tysons Corner and Bethesda), so I'd suggest the latter.

Great Show!

The Pyrates introduced their new fiddler (bein' somewhat deaf, I missed her name...)

The opening acts were great, Gregory Lygon and Darcy Nair in the first set, the Chromatics, a great a cappella group comprised of scientists from NASA Goddard. At the invitation of the organizors, I went in rig, but was one of few there. (THANKS, LYNN!)

Seriously, though, a great time was had by all, and GIBTU willing, I'm still gonna see the Pyrates this Thursday.

::snicker:::

I'd *love* to do a show in N.E., Kendall! 'Fraid it's one hell of commute, however.

Ferrara, there was one person who introduced himself as a 'Catter, but I could not tell you his handle now. We had too much going on for me to remember my own name let alone anyone elses.

Thanks Vince! The new fiddlers name is Chelle Fulk. And she is *amazing*. The lady has actually rehearsed with us all of twice, and was able to play all that with us. We've missed the fiddle a lot since our last one left a couple years ago. It was so great to have that sound again.

The Chromatics *rocked*! I bought their C.D.'s. Those guys have one hell of a blend, and are incredibly funny. They're not strictly folk, but I recomend anyone see them if the chance arises.

It truly was a fantastic show. The Chromatics were great, and the Pyrates were up to their normal great performance!

Celtic Soul (Lynn) has a voice that truly is wonderful to listen to. Her daughter and fiancee sat behind us and sang along (even on the worst song ever written :-) ). I enjoyed meeting Ms. Soul, and I think I even talking to W.D. if he is a mate on the Enterprise.

Don't miss them again. ya' hear!

Congratulations, CS. Obviously a fine fine show, from these reviews. / NEW ENGLAND! NEW ENGLAND! / SOUTHERN New England, see? Connecticut, let's say, just for example... :) Hell, it's *only* like an 8-hour drive from the D.C. area. / Then Cap'n Kendall & all his Buxton Maine-iacs can come on down here in a mere hop skip & jump. / OKOKOK: the Yankees will come to you. Hmmm...Springfield Va, eh?...where's me map...

JAB! There he is! I knew I met another 'Catter that night! But, there was no way I was going to remember the name (sorry!). It was grand to meet you as well, JAB. I think you indeed have pegged our friend Vince (Wincing Devil). He was bedecked in his finest Jack Tar's for the evening. I'm glad the nipperkin didn't give you any trouble. Cerredwins is one of the *best* venues we play, IMO. I highly recomend people in this area bookmark the website, as the host (and longtime friend of mine) Anna is always coming up with *wonderful* line ups. http://www.cerridwin.org/

And Kendall? I'd *love* to line up a gig in Connecticut or that general area...like Mystic...ooooooo. Always wanted to play there. It'd be a little spendy for whomever hired us, though...know anyone who would want to hire us for scale and pay a little besides for the travel?

Yes, I am now with cookie!

For some reason my post from work came through as "Guest", (shreak in horror). We have been to Cerridwins once before, when the Pyrates played (before paul so it must have been three years ago), and I must say this time it was a little more tame. The Chromatics are a bit more main stream than the Pagan duo that opened for you when we were there before. However, it was truly a great show. I missed some of my old time favorites that you perform (Rolling Down to Old Maui, and Bell Bottom Trousers, etc.), but loved some of the new songs as well (especially the song about the cats) and my kids loved the song about "You're a Bastard, You're an A###ipe, ....". We spent all of Sunday making sure that my 12 year old won't sing it when he visits his grand parents this week. Paul is becoming part of the show, and I'm sure your new fiddle player will take on a personality before you know it. Will she be singing?

Wincing Devil, dag nabit, I was sure hoping you would shangai two powder monkeys for about two months. Next time, I'll slip something in their drinks and you can carry them out after the show. I hear the Abigail is looking for hands.

JAB

GB:

Ah, yes, powder monkeys are always needed! (reference "I Remember Nelson" on PBS, part III) I'm not from the Enterprize meself, but the former occupant of me hat was!

I'm slowly coming to the realization that my main musical talent lies in purchasing CDs of local artists and going to their concerts. The fiddle is impossible, the hand positions are identical to the pain inflection methods I learned in Jui-Jitsu, my tounge is too fat for the mouth harp, and I lost all manual dexterity when I fell out of my bed as a child, onto the steel blade of a toy bulldozer. (I still have the dent!)

Anyway, what good is an artist without an audience?

JAB, yes eventually, Chelle will sing as well (eventually, when we give her lyrics and show her the arrangements). And I'd say you're spot on. She'll find her niche, and fairly fast I think. She's really quite funny.
