Subject: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: GUEST Date: 16 Jul 02 - 07:37 PM I've been playing trad music in the UK sessions for 20 years, and in all that time I've never seen a single Chinese person playing. What gives? |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: InOBU Date: 16 Jul 02 - 07:53 PM What gives is Asian people are not yellow, and I have played with Asian musicians in the Irish tradition in New York from several Asian countries including China... maybe it is a UK thing???? Larry |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 Jul 02 - 07:54 PM In a hamlet in northern Alberta (Canada) where we were doing field work, the only restaurant was Chinese. The cook was fluent in both Chinese and English, and he used to belt out American cowboy-country songs in Chinese while he was cooking (perhaps just as well we couldn't understand him). This also was the only entertainment in town. The Chinese have a large and varied repertoire of "trad" music, equal to or larger than that of western Europe and those offshore isles. We don't sing their songs and they don't sing ours. I don't find this surprising. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: GUEST Date: 16 Jul 02 - 07:59 PM Afro Caribbeans aren't 'black' either, you and I aren't 'white' I was just trying to make a point regarding color based judgement Unfortunately, someone deleted my post about 'Purple Mudcatters' It's a shame that out of the two, this one remained. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 02 - 08:32 PM Indeed. Maybe you should have said "plaid Mudcatters"... No. That might offend the Scots. Ummmm..."teal Mudcatters"? Nope. Could offend waterfowl. Chartreuse Mudcatters? There we go! Offends no one. ARE THERE ANY CHARTREUSE MUDCATTERS? The World needs to know! - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: GUEST Date: 16 Jul 02 - 08:41 PM Chartreuse is also an addictive alcoholic drink. To define a recovering 'chartreuse addict' in that way could well be seen as offensive. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: Jim Krause Date: 16 Jul 02 - 09:04 PM ARE THERE ANY CHARTREUSE MUDCATTERS? In answer to your question, LH there is a breed of cat called the Chartreuse, originating as the name might indicate in France. If such a cat might get a little dirty, you would indeed have...............
a Chartreuse Mudcat!

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 16 Jul 02 - 11:33 PM I've met a handful of yellow-bellied, lilly-livered, cowardly-custard, pacifists hiding on the MC-BBS...
......but with the new Patriot Act incentives...I will be the first in line to turn their sorry souls into hard cash green-backs (or perhaps Euros since they are standing up better under the current economic troubles.)
Sincerely, |

Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: Dani Date: 17 Jul 02 - 02:15 PM Seems to me there are PLENTY of green Mudcatters; and, at least for a while, our own Barry was maybe a LITTLE yellow. Subject: RE: BS: Are there any Yellow Mudcatters From: mack/misophist Date: 18 Jul 02 - 12:43 AM The point is that most of the dozens of Asians I know would resent being called yellow. It's their decision, so honor it. |
