Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Aug 02 - 01:05 AM Bhagavan appears to Arjuna as Lord Krishna......but the story is still the same. Bagger Vance is a believable name for a pro caddy. I dunno' what you'd do with Krishna. If you get balled up in any kind of perfectionistic exactitude, you miss the beauty of the tale and the obvious take-off from the Gita. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Celtic Soul Date: 09 Aug 02 - 10:10 AM LH, Geena Davis is indeed very tall (by my standards, anyway). She was wed to Jeff Goldblum for awhile there, and she could stand next to the man without looking diminutive. And he is one long tall glass of water at 6'4". usimdb.com lists her as 6 feet tall. That'd be a lot more than me, for sure. |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Aug 02 - 10:41 AM Celtic - Wow. That makes almost 2 of CarolC, doesn't it? :-) OM - Well, that is pretty cool. Beam me up any old time! I no longer have the desire to be a famous singer/songwriter anyway, so I figure I'm about ready to move on from these pastures of plenty... Spaw - Sounds like good advice to me... - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: SharonA Date: 12 Aug 02 - 02:46 PM Celtic Soul and LH: Maybe Manoj Night Shyamalan's movies have to do only with the illusions of 21st century Philadelphia about itself. His three well-known films – "Signs", "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" – are all set in either Philly itself or the Philly area. Likewise his less-famous effort, "Wide Awake". He has yet to make a big-budget film that's set anywhere else! By the way (for trivia buffs), speaking of Penn Valley, the setting of the ABC-TV soap opera "All My Children" is the fictitious Pine Valley which is a VERY thinly disguised Penn Valley. |
Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Kim C Date: 12 Aug 02 - 05:42 PM I liked Geena Davis in The Accidental Tourist. |
Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Aug 02 - 06:42 PM Geen Davis is always worth watching. Sharon - My God, those are small horizons! Hopefully he'll focus farther afield next time...like maybe a story set in Schenectady! That could be really thrilling. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Celtic Soul Date: 12 Aug 02 - 10:18 PM LH, If you merged Carol and me, you'd get Geena Davis with bigger boobs. Mmario...Quality! Why thanks! though I think you may have to reconsider after my last comment here to LH ;D Sharon, seems you may have hit the nail in the head. I know he isn't speaking to *my* experience...perhaps his films make sense to the people around Philly, as you say. |
Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Aug 02 - 10:25 PM Celtic - Ummmm...well, I am trying to picture that. :-) I really think that films based on the Schenectady area could take us into a whole new form of North American angst. I am going to write Shyamalan and Tom Cruise and see if I can get the ball rolling on such an idea right quick. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Don't waste your money on 'Signs' - *1/2 From: GUEST,Just Amy Date: 13 Aug 02 - 08:11 PM As to the original review.... thanks I won't see it even though we get a free screening here (A major studio) and Mel Gibson is in it. I saw the new Clint Eastwood movie (Blood Work) and it is likewise forgettable and not interesting. |
