Today I sent just over 900 E mails to people on my mailing list who have gigs near them in the next few months. Now I've had 101 of them back!! They've changed their E address since registering with me. Now I have the task of taking them all off my address book and writing them letters. Surely the companies could come up with a way for us all to have an E address that's portable, because the amount of work all this chopping and changing must be creating for people doesn't bear thinking about. On my last cd I had a song that included the line "Now my E mail list fans have all changed their address" in the vain hope that when they played it, having done just that, they'd think to send me the new one!!

The more things get better, the more they stay the same. At least e-mail mailing lists don't require postage. But, the work stays the same... even worse, because people change their e-mail address more often than they do their home address... Have you considered a chain letter? :-)

My email address has been treewind.co.uk through at least three changes of ISP. What's the problem? There is a system, but most people can't be bothered to use it or to pay a bit more for the convenience.

I use proper domain hosting, but it can be done through clicknames.net on the cheap (about 10 quid a year) which is absolutely fine if all you want is email redirecting, and works (with some quirks) for web redirecting too.

I change my email address every couple of years to escape spam. It takes about a year for them to catch up to me and another year for it to get bad enough for me to justify the switch. I have no interest in having a permanent email address for that reason.

I moderate two mailing lists. The listserver automatically removes email addresses with three bounces. It's a lifesaver. You might look into the listservers with BCentral or someone else to help manage your names. 900 is a lot to keep track of manually!

I don't know what the solution is with people changing addresses. If they haven't got you in their address book and that seems likely in your case Harvey, then they wouldn't think of informing you.

I changed my e-mail address because of spam mail.

I was in hospital for a month only to find 356 e-mails waiting for me Yes 356!! 330 of which consisted of spam mail.

I notified all my addressees accordingly of my change of address.

I have not had a lot of problems since. Just delete without bothering to read them is the best policy.
