Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST Date: 19 Sep 02 - 09:56 PM The ActiveEdit WYSIWYG HTML editor from www.cfdev.com would solve a lot of formatting problems if it was embedded into the thread submission page. It's free and provides an MS Word-like interface through the Web. |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Amos Date: 04 Sep 02 - 07:11 PM Preview is in there. Automatic line breaks are optional. Blickifier is handily located. I tell ya, it's Mudcatter heaven. But for goodness sake, wait until it's outta beta! A |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Sep 02 - 06:30 PM The only html I know I learnt through the Mudcat. And it's quite useful at times.
I'm glad there won't be a facility allowing people to rewrite their posts after they've posted, the way politicians are allowed to rewrite the parliamentary record to take out the cock-ups and lies.
But I'm hoping there will be a facility allowing you to preview what you have written, because it's always just as I push the submit button I notice the errors. But once it's posted it should stay posted. (With the friendly elves ready to take out the surplus post, if you feel it's bad enough typos to merit sending a second time immediately.) |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Bill D Date: 04 Sep 02 - 06:22 PM war & hunger?...sure...simple! Just reduce the population to a sane level. What's that?...you don't think there is a good way to do that?..*tsk*...I just supply answers...implementation is a another issue. 2 front teeth is tricker... |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 02 - 05:41 PM ...oh, yeah, and while you're at it- could you fix war and world hunger? I think that would also be helpful. Heck, while I'm on a roll...all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, if you could just throw that in as well.... |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: aussiebloke Date: 04 Sep 02 - 12:44 AM A blickifier. Well I'll go to the bottom of my sock! What a modern age we live in... Cheers aussiebloke |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Gareth Date: 03 Sep 02 - 06:39 PM B****r me Bill - I never knew the Blicifier existed !! Damn, Damn, and Triple Damn !!! Gareth |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Bill D Date: 03 Sep 02 - 06:21 PM line breaks can be made automatic...bolds & italics will probably have to still be done the hard way.... but...who remembers the blickifier?..it is still there automated clicky-maker ...you just enter a URL, and all the [a href=] stuff is done for you! |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Sep 02 - 06:12 PM That was a big problem with automatic line breaks - when Max first tried them, they went all sorts of places where we didn't want them. Pene has a system that solves that problem quite handily, but it's still being tested. He has a check box that allows you to select NOT to have automatic line breaks in the message you're posting; and he also has a feature that lets you preview your message before you post it. No, you probably still won't be able to edit your messages once they're posted. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Susanne (skw) Date: 03 Sep 02 - 05:36 PM Amos, are you saying I now have to UNlearn how to do line breaks, bold, italics and all that stuff??? How tedious! |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Amos Date: 03 Sep 02 - 04:13 PM Guys, the work has been done. THe prototype includes this feature. I've bveen told how it works and it sounds good. Look. You don't deploy a whole version of software one damn feature at a time! You test the whole build and beta test the version before you deploy it. Ya know why? It's so that you don't get nibbled to death by natter-happy malcontents. That's why! This is not MacSoftware, fellas. It's a bunch of lowincome musicians supporting a volunteer-labor website and doing a decent job with what they got. I submit the ancient Chinese expression "Gunnnnng-HO!" for your reflection. It means "pull together". Note, it does not mean "Pull down". Regards, A |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Ferrara Date: 03 Sep 02 - 04:07 PM Well, maybe one of the elves will get your line break fix in yet, Jayne.

Subject: RE: Dear Max From: greg stephens Date: 03 Sep 02 - 07:54 AM GUEST Jayne: as sending money to Max hasnt worked, I suggest you pay some Mudcatter (some of whom obviously have plenty of spare time) to type up your postings for you with line-breaks and so on. Some people round here can even do blue clickies, links to other threads, all that kind of stuff. I can't do the fancy stuff, but I'll do linebreaks at $1 a throw. |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST Date: 02 Sep 02 - 10:12 PM Oops, that should be: REPLACE(message,chr(13),"<br>","ALL"
|
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST Date: 02 Sep 02 - 10:10 PM Max can add this code and it will accomplish what you want:
<CFSET message=CFREPLACE(message,chr(13),"
|
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Amos Date: 02 Sep 02 - 08:53 PM Cher M. Heureux: In posting in the current version of the Mudcat, you cannot get a line break (single) without adding the letter "br" enclosed between left and right carets ("<" and ">") in order to inform web browsers that they must display a line break at that point. This is not much work, even for the elderly among us -- for example, search on Catspaw49 as User under "Advanced Forum Search" and you will find thousands of posts he wrote this way. Jayne, however, finds it inconvenient. But she's a tease anyway, and a hard drinker! :>) (Duck, cover and flee stage right).... A |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Mr Happy Date: 02 Sep 02 - 07:49 PM what's [br]? sounds chilly-chattering teeth-goose pimples[us bumps]. is it like bs? |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Susanne (skw) Date: 02 Sep 02 - 07:31 PM Dear Jayne, thanks for reminding me that I still haven't posted any money to Max. Will do so asap. Some free technical advice: Cut and paste makes the >br< thing so much easier! And it started me on learning html. Hope your hangover's over! Susanne |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 01 Sep 02 - 04:07 PM It appears to me that (anonymous) GUEST has just changed his name approach. No big deal about typing [BR] or [P]. If that was the biggest negative I could find on the web, or even on Mudcat, that's far and away the least problem in my web life! Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Gareth Date: 01 Sep 02 - 03:06 PM Max / Mudcat Cafe needs money to exist. No Money = No Mudcat. It's your choice. Gareth |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST,Jayne Date: 01 Sep 02 - 02:40 PM I am SO sorry for my lack of creativity last night. I was just too drunk to really put any effort into it. Let me try again. Dear Max I really hate typing 'br' So I double space everything. I'm mad because Somebody said there were automatic 'br's in the upgrade, and Somebody else said you needed money and began collecting it This is your responsibility because everyone knows the metal hats only work on ALIEN mind control and you, Max are not an alien. I think. In any case, it's not that I don't like you. It's that I think you're really cute and I want to have your children. But you don't give me ANY attention at all. Don't feel bad though, no one pays me any mind. Please 1. Guess who I am 2. Guess how much money I gave you 3. Put the money in a brown paper bag 4. Leave it under the bridge. Don't mess with the billygoats - trust me, it's not worth it. Thank you Jayne |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Amos Date: 01 Sep 02 - 02:12 PM Humble thanks, Ferrara, for adding a little germane and humane perspective to the stew!! Max -- when in deep doodoo -- communicate even more! A |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Ferrara Date: 01 Sep 02 - 02:02 PM Dear GUEST Jayne, How much money did you send Max on the assumption that he would eliminate the need for the <br> command? Will be happy to send you a refund for up to $20.00 if it will make you feel better. If that is what you thought you were supporting, I can understand if you feel cheated. However, Max is up to his ears in **** and can barely keep the equipment running. After being disabled and totally unable to work for 7 years I now have a job paying $200 a month so I figure I'm better able to repay you than Max is.... Ferrara |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Mr Red Date: 01 Sep 02 - 01:23 PM Ya know I long have been amazed at the view that quality is not only all but all decided by one person I am lazy, I want an auto [BR] button, but I would be a little more concerned if I couldn't even put the [BR] on this page. If it don't exist it ain't got no quality. If it exists at least ya can bitch about the quality. Complaining is a way of life to some people. I lived with a lass for ten years who was like that and I'M CURED NOW. |

Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Amos Date: 01 Sep 02 - 10:57 AM Dear Guest: Just for the record, Oh Pusilannimous One, I did not start the thread you mention. I suggest you get your facts straight -- if you're capable of it -- before seeking to engage your sorry little mouth. A |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 01 Sep 02 - 10:49 AM One thing which would help international donations would be to make Mudcat a secure site for credit card transactions( I've tried twice to register for Pay Pal: the first time I mistyped my postcode (zip code) and when I noticed and tried to alter it, it wouldn't let me. When I tried to register again they said my number was already registered so I couldn't register again. I know it's my fault for being inept but...) RtS (fumble fingers) |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: Rick Fielding Date: 01 Sep 02 - 10:36 AM Wow...an open letter to Max, wonderful....lemme put my two cents worth in. Dear Max Wherever you are I hope you're far too busy or disinterested to even read this, let alone answer it. A couple of my Mudcat friends are a tad miffed that you're not answering your phone or e-mails from them.....but not ME! I understand that Jeff may also be a bit too busy with the actual flesh and blood world and it's travails to be accountable on a daily basis. Bravo! I hope both of you are coping with life's vagaries, and perhaps I'll get to say "Hi" to you at the Washington Getaway. Every day while waiting for my spam to download I turn to my favourite current hobby, Mudcat. Sometimes it AIN'T THERE(!!) and I think, "aww shit, he's packed it in...but who can blame him...it must be screwing up SOME aspects (if not all) of his real life. But if it's all over, then I sure owe the guy some big thanks for the four years of fun and the number of good friends I've made. But....a few hours later, it's back.....so the fun continues. So.....Dear Max, wherever you are...don't concern yourself...you've done enough! Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: Dear Max From: GUEST Date: 01 Sep 02 - 10:09 AM Wonders will never cease! A troll has mostly been ignored at Mudcat! I read in another thread that spaw is bored! BS is at an all time low and most of the BS seems interesting! Even "The real reason for spaw's silence", started by Amos of course, has attracted little attention! Is this a sign that the majority of the membership have at last woken up and realised how much of the destruction of Mudcat has been caused? Even without the upgrade, Mudcat is starting to look much better! |

Subject: RE: Dear Max From: John MacKenzie Date: 31 Aug 02 - 08:10 PM Counted 7 'br' commands in that one. Didn't hurt too much did it?? Just had to have a quick one myself.....Giok |
Subject: Dear Max From: GUEST,Jayne Date: 31 Aug 02 - 08:01 PM Hello Max I guess that most people have forgotten about the 'upgrade' What sort of joke was that? Along with most people, I'd like to be able to post lyrics without having to use the 'br' command. I sent you money, and I was promised that. It hasn't happened. Can I have my money back, or is there yet another excuse? Jayne |
