Subject: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Chet W. Date: 23 May 98 - 07:19 PM There's a song I've looked for - just heard it again on the Prairie Home Companion except with different words - I believe the actual title is The Bohemian Girl, from an old light opera or some such. It starts "I dreamt I dwelled in marbled halls..." and the chorus repeats a few times "You loved me still the same...". If anyone has the whole lyric I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Chet W. |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Cuilionn Date: 23 May 98 - 10:34 PM Dinnae laugh at me, but I'm thinkin' th' song appears on ane o' Enya's albums as weel. It micht be ca'd by anither name, but th' wairds are th' same. An' whether some folk are quick tae scoff at her as "new age," She still soonds richt grand. I wish I cuid reca' th' specific album, but I cannae...ane o' th' newer anes, tho'.

Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Alice Date: 24 May 98 - 11:22 AM I remember the first time I heard this song was when I was a little girl, watching a Laurel and Hardy movie. It was the one where they were gypsies who took in a little girl and raised her in their caravan. Jeanette McDonald sang "Marble Halls". alice |
Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Alice Date: 24 May 98 - 01:21 PM ooops, I'm not sure who sang it in the L&H movie. It is not on MacDonald's list, but the Laurel and Hardy 'Bohemian Girl'(1936) is available on video. alice |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Richard Wright Date: 25 May 98 - 12:46 PM Well, well well--this is like a terminal case of deja vu all over again. On a shelf in our living room is a picture of me some few decades ago, in drag, as a 8-year-old Bohemian girl. My dad is standing beside me--he was the pirate King, or was it Gypsy King, who stole me. I still remember my lines, " I want to go home, I want to go home." My Aunt is also in the pictiure dressed as a "maid"?. I don't remember her part. They had my Dad play the part of the pirate King as they were afraid to have someone else "steal" me. Memories. Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Alice Date: 25 May 98 - 02:18 PM Memory? No, That's from 'Cats'.... sorry, Richard, just teasin'. I couldn't help it.
Richard, What did the other 8 year old boys in school do to you when they found out?? Kind of like the having to be a boy playing Little Buttercup in HMS Pinafore. Or did you keep it a family secret? Sounds like it was great fun. Good thing you took photos. alice |
Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Richard Wright Date: 26 May 98 - 01:20 PM Alice; I made sure they didn't. In fact the pictures did not surface until recently, by which time I had two grown sons and there was less doubt about my masculinity--which is not to say my brothers and sons don't take the opportunity for some ragging. They aren't something I will post on the web on use on an album cover. Richard
