Subject: RE: Oregon Folklife Festival-still operating? From: Amergin Date: 05 Jan 11 - 08:31 AM This is the first I've ever heard of one existing....However, there was a multi-venue folk festival a few months back in Portland....I think Peter Yarrow was one of the performers....I understand they want to do it again this year.... There is apparently a festival going on this weekend in Portland too...bluegrass and americana I gather. Also there is a folk festival each September over in Sisters.... |

Subject: RE: Oregon Folklife Festival-still operating? From: Daver Date: 20 Jan 11 - 02:10 AM The Oregon Folklife Festival, which had been produced in Corvallis, died several years ago. It had suffered from a perpetual disagreement on whether it should be a venue for local unpaid musicians or a major production with professionals brought in from outside. It would go with local musicians until someone who wanted to make it big-time took over for a few years, burned out and then someone local took it back for local musicians. Unfortunately, the last time a big-time director burned out there was no one local to take it over, so it died. |

Subject: RE: Oregon Folklife Festival-still operating? From: reggie miles Date: 03 Apr 11 - 10:16 PM Last I heard, the Sisters Blues event, which was all about bringing in 'supposed' big name talent and asking locals to play for free was badly in the red. I don't think that they could blame that loss on the local talent, given that they weren't getting paid. I'm not certain that this event is still happening. |
