I'm flummoxed!

Can't complain at Dick for not upgrading the DT, can't moan at Max, wondering why the upgrade never appears.

Can't complain that the upgrade is crap, 'cos it isn't.

Can't even complain about the amount of BS, 'cos I can filter it now...

I think I'll have to retire!

Thanks Max, Pene, Dick and all others involved.

This is a good product!

You could always come out, and be a full-blown Mudcatter. (And noone will ever know.)

and I hope no anon. 'guests' have any idea their whining and bitching made any difference.
Max and the elves did this for US, and because they wanted to...in their spare time. It is here because they finished the job...not because they were bullied and chastised.
I sure wish the process could have happened without all the complaints and 2nd guessing..but some folks just aren't wired for patience and forebearance, it seems......anyway, thanks again, Max, Pene and all the testers

Guest: just a suggestion of one thing you could do, stop double spacing your lines.
The normal carriage return (enter button) now creates a new line in your message just as it does when you're writing it.
Double spacing only means more scrolling through screens, and is only really useful as a means of showing 'new verse' or separating your name at the end of message.

Nigel

Unless you un-tick Automatic Linebreaks.

horrifying as the suggestion might be GUEST - why not try something positive, contributing rather then something negative and derogatory? Maybe a complete change is in order.

MMario, try looking up humour in the dictionary. Or by your lack of it probably humor.

Another Guest....humor should be funny and shared.
Some topics are a bit too tender to evoke many giggles

If the first 'guest' is the one who posted so many negative comments, you'll forgive me if I am not amused (but only pleased) by its retirement.

Well, I read that first post as a tongue-in-cheek impersonation of a guest - and the subtext was a HUGE compliment to Max etc.
Some people still can't restrain their knee-jerk reactions to GUESTS can they?

God forbid my comment should be taken as tongue in cheek as well, eh?

As Mudcat totally fails to transmit tongues being pressed firmly into cheeks, then I suggest this issue must be addressed immediately. I await the software upgrade patiently. :-)

I never felt cause to complain about the 'old' software, I'm not going to start bitching about the sooper-dooper sparkly new one.

A big pat on the collective backs of Max and the elves from here.

Brian

Upgrade idea: What about a filter that removes guests from the displayed thread? I know a tricky one but that's up to the user.
Just think you wouldn't have to read ridiculous suggestions like this!

We'd still have to read the numerous anti-guest reactions from members who don't want to use a no-guest filter and nearly always feel compelled to say something. (This is tongue in cheek too. Same way as MMario's comment above.)

In addition to the guest's messages, we'll have to read the gazillion member replies to trolls, real or imagined. There would be no way to filter members-who-consistently-reply out.

Let's face it folks - we need the trolls. Well, some folks need 'em, and they need to be here. They're as much a part of our Mudcat community as anyone else. If we DIDN'T need them and want them here, no one would reply to them, and the threads they're in wouldn't be so long.

We also need anonymous guests. Those who are part of a group that's concerned with being seen to be not part of a group. There's always a pro-group group and and anti-group group, and then there's a bunch of folks in between who are the yeah-fine-whatever group. So we actually NEED the Mudcat regulars who don't actually like the group
to stand up and be counted among the hordes of non-joiner, rebellious types so those of us who are yeah-fine-whatever types have TWO groups to not be a part of.

We need to embrace our dark side and realise that it may be a real pain in the ass on it's own, but then we're real wimps without it, and...wait a minute - that's an episode of Star Trek. Anyway, it hasn't always been like this, but I guess the current climate of debate, argument and flaming would suffer greatly if the trolls boogied off elsewhere. Then again, I don't think there would be very many folks left, guest OR member.

re this GUEST business.
THe tag of GUEST was originally created to prevent non-members from posting under members' handles. It was a positive response to a very real problem.
