for two days I had no trouble getting into the Mudchat room. Today, it's taking forever for it to download, and when I do get in, it takes about a minute for anything I type to show up on the screen, and I usually then get cut off with a window that says that an error has occured with the server, and I should restart the chat. Anyone else having this problem?

A few people are having problems with the chat room, see the thread called Tech:Mudcat Help, Max is aware of the problem, and is trying to fix it.

Yes. About 7 of us were in earlier and we all had problems. I think part if it is Internet Traffic. Internationally, about 25-30% of packets are lost; a lot in the southern US. (Hurricane Lili or what ever her name is)

Ah, well if Lilli is involved we best be battening down hatches and bringing the washing in.... I've seen what she can do on the news....

I'm just stunned that it all works at all... it may help to cut down a lot of the BS threads here when we can just pop into the Mudchat and sit back with a couple of beers and shoot the breeze there.

Thanks Max, you've done my RSI the world of good - NOT!

Liz,

Why are you 'stunned that it works at all?'

It's a pretty easy thing to implement

I don't know about Liz, but I am stunned that the Internet works at all. I consider it Magic and not to be understood by mere mortals! Several other things in that category--radio, telephone, fax, etc.

I'm with Sorcha on that. I think all the technical explanations of those things are camouflage. It's really a bunch of Guardian Angels and Good Witches and Wizards weaving spells who are holding it together.

I PM'd Max with a glitch that he is probably aware of But it affects my hnadle.

if you go looking for names with spaces in them and ask for "Mr" or "Mr " (note space) it throws a wobbly - name in full OK. Though obviously I didn't try on my own name so it might be character specific.

Type "Max" and wild card throws up a fair number of Maxes (all of them? that would be a true max.)

I haven't checked since day 1 so be warned anyway.

I just logged-out (public PC) and it still tells me I have 29 messages.

It is pefectly safe (if a little odd) as it refuses access to the messages when clicked.

It is not visible now so maybe it is a timing anomaly.

Wed lunchtime - got in for a few minutes, then the mudserver went down.
Wed eve - managed a bit of conversation, but my BT phone connection kept breaking every 2 minutes.
Thur lunch - got in no problem, but nobody else there.
Last night - took 3-5 minutes to get in, then was told I wasn't logged in, or there were server problems, and BT kept playing up as well.
Now - got in with no problems, but there's nobody there.

Is it trying to tell me something?

WassaiL! V

gfrihfpqhw**&&$$@!!!

Yesterday I got in and everything worked (-ish). Today - no text field to type into. Bah! It's like wanting to have a conversation but suddenly your mouth is glued shut. Frustrating!

OK, thanks for all your help, folks. I thought it might just be my computer. I'll try it tonight. And Sorcha/McGrath - those items I understand, but you'll never convince me that the microwave oven isn't operated by pure magic.
