Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: SharonA Date: 15 Oct 02 - 04:07 PM CatsPHiddle sez: "...people have been really good and have told me who they were paired up with last year." Okay, I got the hint! Just sent off a PM to you, Cat, listing my 2001 SS and 2001 Santee. October 20th is only 5 days away, and the 22nd only a week away! Oh boy, oh boy, I can't wait to see who my Santee is this time... |

Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Catherine Jayne Date: 15 Oct 02 - 12:30 PM Hi I will start a thread with all the names of people who have signed up. I will PM every one on the 22nd October with their santee. The deadline is the 20th. Cat (sss) |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Susan from California Date: 15 Oct 02 - 12:24 PM Are you going to PM us with our "Santee" after everyone is signed up? I'm not sure about logistics, and am worried that my PM wanting in wasn't rec'd. Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Catherine Jayne Date: 15 Oct 02 - 12:16 PM Burke....don't worry it is all in hand. I am trying not to put the same people together as last year and people have been really good and have told me who they were paired up with last year. THe point I was trying to make is that there is not much point in sending the questionnaires to me unless you don't want to post it on in the forum and then I could send it on to your secret santa. SSS |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Burke Date: 15 Oct 02 - 12:06 PM catsPHiddle - you said: As much as I enjoy reading your questionnaires especiallt Chances!!! I think it would be best if they were posted on the Hints thread then your secret santa will be able to suss out what pressie to get you. They have helped me to think about who to put each of with. I think the idea is you dump all the names into a hat, bowl, whatever & draw. You should not to try to match certain individuals anymore than we should be requesting certain Santee's. The Randomness is part of the fun. To comply with the "only in my country" requests, the UK for instance, put all UK Santee's names together. Draw names for the Santas who have request a UK Santee. Then take the leftover names & combine them with the ones left from US, Oz, etc. |

Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Genie Date: 12 Oct 02 - 12:38 PM Q: Cat, In order to get our hints to our Secret Santas, do we have to post them in the forum thread, or if we send our questionnaire answers to you, can you forward them to the appropriate SS? I am a bit reluctant to post too much personal info in one spot on the net, since it may lead to further SPAM, etc. Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: SharonA Date: 11 Oct 02 - 05:59 PM So, catsPHiddle the SSS (Secret Santa's Secretary), do you want us to send questionnaire answers to you, or post them on a Hints thread, or both? |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: karen k Date: 11 Oct 02 - 05:28 PM I didn't participate last year but I'm in this year. Will send info soon. |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Genie Date: 11 Oct 02 - 04:04 PM Another good point, Capri. Sometimes it's more important to know what a person does NOT want or can NOT use/wear (e.g., no more ties, no fragrances, no pink clothing, no banjo music, etc.) than to have them list what they are wishing for. Not a bad idea to add a Q or two about things to avoid. Genie |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Edain Date: 11 Oct 02 - 09:24 AM Count me in |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: CapriUni Date: 11 Oct 02 - 02:51 AM Re: Clicking on a person's name, to find out their Holiday (or just winter) wishes. This is fun, even if you do get hints... For one thing, it might get you into threads you wouldn't have explored otherwise... One suggestion for the hints list: A question on allergies, or other "Please do *not* get me ____" question... I'd hate to send someone a homemade treat, for example, only to have it be something they can't enjoy... |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Genie Date: 10 Oct 02 - 10:42 PM Excellent suggestion, Capri! |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: CapriUni Date: 10 Oct 02 - 06:59 PM As for the hints list... sometimes, the recipient doesn't want to give hints... doesn't want to steer the Santa in question in any one direction or another, but wants, instead to be completely surprised. In case this happens to you (as it did with me), dear Santas, I recommend the following: Use the wonderful (and unique, as far as I can tell) Mudcat feature and click on your santee's Mudcat name in any thread it appears. This will bring up a list of all of that person's posts. Reading people's posts, what they talked about last week or last year, can give you a sense of their passions and foibles and wishes. Just a thought... |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Genie Date: 10 Oct 02 - 06:04 PM Sign me up, Stilly. Seems like it could be fun -- and has been for many of you in the past. I'm kinda with Misophist, though, in that giving someone a "gift" of a donation to their favorite charity is a beautiful option, and much preferable to exchanging more "stuff" just for the sake of buying and wrapping presents. Click for related thread: Alternative Gift Market For Christmas Material gifts that have meaning behind them are quite another thing, though (like someone sending you a copy of their new CD or giving a gift that's really tailored for the receiver). So, Misophist, I don't think your comment is contrary to the Christmas spirit -- but neither is the Secret Santa exhange. It's all in the spirit you bring to it. I'm looking forward to doing "Secret Santa" this year (double entendre noted but not intended). Genie ¤:-D |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Catherine Jayne Date: 10 Oct 02 - 05:43 PM Hi Since the thread was started last night I have had 37 Pm's with people sending their details to take part. I have to say at the moment it is the 'catters from America that are really getting into the Christmas spirit this year!! Santa's Secretary Cat |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: RangerSteve Date: 10 Oct 02 - 05:37 PM I'm in. I PMed you my info. |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Burke Date: 10 Oct 02 - 04:39 PM I liked reading others hints last year as well. If nothing else, it gave me ideas for my list. I see no one has started a hints thread yet. Should we start on now or wait until after Oct. 20 when we actually have names? catsPHiddle, how many have signed up so far? Does anyone know how many there were last year? |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 10 Oct 02 - 03:40 PM Hey Fibula, I still have your "details" from last year (I was her Secret Santa) and if there is a need I can forward them to cat tonight. I suspect next week will be fine though. |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Amergin Date: 10 Oct 02 - 02:15 PM well we could tar and feather the welchers.... |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: SharonA Date: 10 Oct 02 - 02:04 PM By the way, as far as the questionnaire is concerned, I think that the answers should be posted on the Hints thread if one desires to make one's info public, but should not be absolutely required. I think that the hints and jokes passed back and forth between Santas and Santees are more fun for everyone to read when everyone is familiar with the wish-lists on which those hints and jokes are based. Last year's attitude was that if you didn't fill out the questionnaire, you'd better be happy with the present you got! Everyone did seem to be happy... except for those couple of people who did not receive pressies at all. That seems to have been the only problem with last year's exchange. Hopefully we can all make sure that everyone gets his/her gift this year! |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: SharonA Date: 10 Oct 02 - 01:37 PM Hey, misophist, why don't you sign up and name your favorite charity? Then your Secret Santa can send them a contribution in your name. Seems like a good reason to "bother"! |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Oct 02 - 01:26 PM I only wish I'd bothered last year too but count me in for this one Cat. Will send details later today. |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Catherine Jayne Date: 10 Oct 02 - 11:30 AM Thanks for that Chance, now I have such a terrible image of you in your knickers!!! COuld everyone who wants to take part please PM me. The questionnaire is lurking around this thread so just forward them to me!! Cheers Cat... |
Subject: RE: BS: SECRET SANTA SIGN-UP THREAD From: Fortunato Date: 10 Oct 02 - 10:50 AM Thanks, catsPHiddle, et al. I had a great time last year and have PMed my info. I also believe in random acts of love and generosity, at holiday time so... Just in case old 'spaw is feeling low, I'm sending him: an autographed picture of me in my knickers with the handcuffs on, I'm smeared with 30 weight motor oil, jumper cables attached (delicacy prevents further detail) and my right foot in a bucket of wet oatmeal. Hee, hee, hee, or is that Ho, ho, ho? cheers, chance |
