Excuse the rearranging but, just to get these out of the way:
5. what books have you really been wanting?
7. what cds have you really been wanting?
8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?

I have nothing specific on my current wish list, so I can't answer any of those questions... oh, and I do not have a VCR at the moment.

1. what is your age range? I will be somewhere between 38 and 40 a few weeks after Yule (which I celebrate, rather than Christmas), so you have extra time to mail me something. If you're running late, just call it a "birthday present" -- my parents always did! ;-)

2. gender? Double X

3. Do you have a favorite color? Jewal and earth tones... anything but pastels

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Myths and folklore, both "Straight" and retold in modern fiction guise.

6. What type of music do you like? Saying "Folk" around here doesn't help much, does it? Hmmm... lessee: Child Ballads, Robert Burns, Turlough O'Carolan, worldbeat, sea shanties, Appalachian, folk-rock, Early (Middle ages, Renaissance), Blues, Bach, Mozart, pre-1950's jazz, pre-1970's country, Children's/Humor...

9. what is your t-shirt size? Large (42" or 105 cm chest)

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? I collect stories, particularly folklore (easy to carry, and useful to have when conversations lag).

11. what are some of your other hobbies? drawing, decorating clothing.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Silver. But I don't wear much jewelry... don't wear rings, finger or ear.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. That's all I can think of right now... hope this helps!

1. Age range: I'll be 18 on 28 December.
2. Gender: XX
3. Favorite color: at the moment, dark red, but green, blue, and bright yellow as well (not any shade of purple or pink)
4./5. Fav authors/type of books: G.K. Chesterton (I have quite a lot of his stuff, but I don't have any Father Brown books.) Grahame Greene (don't yet have The Heart of the Matter) Books on folklore and medieval history also welcome.
6. Music: popular music pre-1960. Classical music, especially of the Baroque and Romantic periods. Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Manx, English, American folk music. Shape-note music. Gregorian chant. Early polyphony.
7. Anything by Steeleye Span or Fairport Convention (heard the music but don't have any CD's yet!) Welsh, Manx, or otherwise hard-to-find Celtic.
8. Don't watch movies much.
9. T-shirt size: medium (as long as it's not from the "juniors" section)
10. I don't collect anything, unless it would be letters and postcards that people send me.
11. Hobbies: Music is my life. There is nothing else.
12. I prefer silver-tone jewelry. But no more necklaces, please. The harp necklace that SharonA sent last year, the treble-clef my harp teacher gave me, and my cross are pretty much all I wear anymore. I do have pierced ears.
13. Anything else important: if it has a shamrock on it, it does not stay in my house. If you come from a place that sells decent tea or tea balls that don't let half the tea leaves leak out into the cup, such items would be much appreciated. I also want postcards of wherever you come from! :)
14. Allergies: none known.

Hope that's specific enough for ya, Santa!

1. what is your age range?
I don't think this matters unless you're trying to decide whether to send Brad Pitt or Sean Connery. Middle-aged
2. gender?
F

Not really, but I'm not fond of bright primary colors and prefer earthy or wossname - muted, heathery, in-between colors.
4. favorite authors/ type of book?

5. what books have you really been wanting?
I like old songbooks, but I might have it already.
6. what type of music do you like?
Yes. Er, traditional English music, sea music (shanties other songs, modern melodic acoustic-folkish such as Garnet Rogers, Gordon Bok, Kate Wolf, David Francy(sp?) (I've heard his songs but not HIM) and I'm open to singers I'm not already familiar with.
7. what cds have you really been wanting?
Gaughan's 'Outlaws & Dreamers' (haven't found it anywhere). Surprise is good though.
8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?
Don't usually buy movies
9. what is your t-shirt size?
I like x-lg up to humongous.
10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
Musical instruments. A Martin 00-18 would be nice, or a Tim Phillips 5 string violin. They're a mere 1,750 quid, or $2,733.15.
11. what are some of your other hobbies?
I've done (and enjoy) all sorts of stuff. Painting, drawing, beading, photography, gardening, reading fantasy, .
12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Gold. Prefer necklaces, bracelets and stuff for my hair. I have pierced ears but I'm allergic to most of the earrings I have.
13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like
I like intricate designs such as Celtic knotwork and filligree as well as abstract things like marbling. I like stained glass and pictures of it (got a Tiffany glass calendar now). Scarves and bandanas. Food and food related stuff. Craftwork. Surrealistic anythings (although it's not everybody's cup of fur). I like candles and (pleasantly) smelly things.

I'm allergic to nickel, but not seriously. Nickel in anything except earrings is fine.

'Spaw - you know that Bette Midler line in the movie called "Outrageous Fortune"? "Does the term bugf--ker or needledick mean anything to you?" Well now she could add sea-horse dick to the list, eh?

Moving right along, before the party gets too rough for this delicate, lady-like little flower. Yes, 'Spaw, I mean me, moi.

**********

My hints are re-worked from last year.

1. what is your age range? 47

2. gender? XX chromosomes

3. Do you have a favorite color? purr-ple, gotta be purr-ple, but other than that: shimmery colours, lots of colours e.g. rainbows, or anything in the purple-blue-magenta range - but not yellow.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Unfortunately for Secret Santas I tend to buy as many books as I can find by my
favourite authors (Margaret Atwood, Nevil Shute, Terry Pratchett etc) so there aren't many gaps left on the shelves
there. But please note: I'm happy with second-hand/used books.

5. what books have you really been wanting? I've nearly got all of the Nevil Shute books now, so that doesn't help much.

6. what type of music do you like? Harp music written by Turlough O'Carolan, e.g. played by Derek Bell of the
Chieftains. Music is difficult because I like so many different types. Not really fond of Country & Western, though. I
love African music, Middle Eastern music, Gypsy music - anything with complex polyrhythms in percussion, even my
Leftfield CD's (techno percussion). All sorts of celtic stuff.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Hard to say. Anything featuring my Secret Santa would be lovely, or anything which my SS loves to listen to. The funny thing is that I don't like many harp CD's except Derek Bell and Sileas and/or The Poozies so that's not really a good option.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? Australian video format is VHS/PAL and we have a DVD player but it would have to be playable on an Australian DVD player so maybe this is too hard.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Medium to large

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? No, but some of my SS's own art or craft work would be fantastic or anything artistic, e.g. an art print by Monet, or a t-shirt with an art print on it.

11. what are some of your other hobbies? drawing/painting with pastels, watercolour pencils. Computer graphics,
digital art, etc Playing the harp (string-type harp)

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Either.

Helen

I'll be 53 when Christmas rolls around, and I'm a male.
I have too many books, however, when I travel I usually look for books of local history and/or folklore. (I live in New Jersey, so I have enough NJ books).
I collect postcards - the large letter "Greetings From" variety.
I also collect ocarinas and clay whistles in unusual shapes.
I have too many videos, CD's, records, cassette tapes, but if you are a folk musician, especially traditional music of any ethnic background, and have a recording, I'd definately like a copy.
Regional Cook books are always welcome, especially those fund-raising ones that various organizations put out.

Food - I have type 2 Diabetes. No sugar, please.

1. what is your age range?    Doesn't matter -- I refuse to grow up.

 2. gender?        I've been accused (sans observation) by Amos of having   "girly throws," and there are several photos of me afoot around these parts, so use your own judgment.

 3. Do you have a favorite color?    - love rich, vibrant colors (Chinese red, purple [on the reddish, not bluish, side], deep teal or bluish green, bright green] as well as rich muted colors [dark brown, charcoal grey, olive green, and a few colors that don't have readily recognized names] .
Generally, no pastels, and no blue-reds [fuchsia, rose, mauve, burgundy, lavender, or bluish purple/purplish blue].

 4. favorite authors/ type of book?    -- audio books  -- generally prefer nonfiction, but depends on book  -- Used books fine (even preferred)

Songbooks (Carter family, Jean Ritchie, Bill Staines, Mark Graham, etc.)   I already have Joan Baez, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Theodore Bikel, The Weavers, The Beatles, Rise Up Singing, Tom Leherer.)

 5. what books have you really been wanting?   -- one I've been meaning to buy is "The Story Of Pink Jade" by William Lederer  -- a wonderful story I read in serialized form back in the '60s in a magazine.  Been meaning to buy a used copy, but can't find my "round tuit."   I love this story and may even turn it into a song some day.

 6. what type of music do you like?   - most everything, except most hip-hop, heavy metal, smooth (overly somni-genic) jazz, and whatever's on the top 40.   Not especially interested in acquiring more classical or contemporary pop/RB/country CDs -- except maybe the Dixie Chicks or Emmy Lou Harris.

 7. what cds have you really been wanting?   -  I generally prefer music with vocals, and love contemporary folk artists like Artisan, Bill Staines, Nanci Griffith, Tom Russell, etc.  I would love to get a CD from a Mudcat singer-songwriter-instrumentalist like Jerry Rasmussen, Derrymacash (Aidàn Crossey), Justa Picker, Charley Noble, Kendall Morse, Alison, or anyone else that you think is worth listening to.   It would be nice to hear a CD that is not likely to be readily available in my local audio store.   Funny songs (à la Mousethief, Mark Graham, The Berrymans, Bryan Bowers, etc., are especially appreciated.  (Catspaw, do you have a CD?  -- Oh, heck!  Just send me Catspaw.  He's always good for a laugh.)

 8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting?   -- ???

 9. what is your t-shirt size?     seldom wear them unless they are tank tops.    Could always use another Mudcat T-shirt, so I won't be reluctant to wear (and wash) the one I have.  -- probably mediu

 10. do you collect anything? if so, what?   - dust, scars, occasionally cats, garden weeds, ex-boyfriends, guitars, and way too much "stuff"

 11. what are some of your other hobbies?   - I gave the list to CatsPhiddle -- nothing really relevant to Christmas presents [unless you want to buy me a new pair of custom-made figure-skating boots  or a rototiller     ;-)   ]

 12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?    gold or gold plated - -- don't wear any jewelry except French-hook or  loop pierced earrings, and the ones I wear are usually bright and colorful.

 13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

One type of "gift" I love is a donation to a charitable organization that benefits environmental and/or humanitarian causes.   Organizations that 'kill two birds with one stone' [e.g., providing solar-powered computers to students in 3rd world countries or teaching people how to grow drought-resistant crops] are my favorites.   The "Alternative Gift Market" is a good place to find these.  The Jimmy Carter Foundation is another good one.

"Negative hints:"
- generally cannot wear fragrances (or even be around them)
- love fattening foods but don't need 'em
- cannot wear jewelry unless it's gold or gold plated  (contact dermatitis?)

11. Hobbies... gee.... knitting, cooking, reading, sewing, beading, tatting, calligraphy, watercolors (though I'm pretty lousy at it right now), needlework, belly dancing, fitness (is that a hobby?), and learning German. I also like a good cigar once in awhile.

12. Either one.

13. Contrary to popular belief, I am not real hard to please! I also like to shop at Archie McPhee, a place I had never heard of until last year's Secret Santa project. I love all their quirky things!

OK, here are my hints. Thanks, Sorcha, for a list to start from.

1. what is your age range? Entering crone range

2. gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? Earthy, also bright natural dye colors...if a Navaho would wear it, I'd like it.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Contemporary fiction: Eliz. Berg,
Richard Russo, Michael Malone; also informal, personal books on writing.

5. what books have you really been wanting? Berg's latest, anything by Russo, or malone; Write it Right. Paperback good, used best!

6. what type of music do you like? Wide-ranging but picky. Just about any kind of purely acoustic guitar, classical, blues, whatever. Also baroque chamber music, also re-releases of 50's jazz, especially ballads.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Have been hankering lately for "Dancing Down the Stony Road"

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting? Haven't a clue.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Big...really big.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Mostly seashells and rocks picked up on local beaches. If my SS lives near the sea I'd love to have a few of each from local beach.

11. what are some of your other hobbies?   Folksinger, gardener, cooking (when pushed to the wall), writing (unfortunately not quite yet in the professional range).

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?   I've fussy pierced ears, so need silver or gold earwires, but aside from that silver, or whatever, bold but not heavy.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like.   Natural, I like natural. I have a basket someone made me from seaweed that is one of my treasured objects for as long as it lasts. I'm not into store-bought. I've no wall space and little flat space for display so have gravitated toward miniature things. I think I'd like anything that was important or meaningful to my SS.

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. Am uninterested in food, probably because I'm allergic to just about everything. I don't like big coffee table books cause I don't have a coffee table. I'm not terribly good at taking care of things, fussing over things, cleaning things. I once turned down a beautiful antique chair because I knew that in one year with me it would be unrecognizable.

I'm so glad folks decided to post their questionnaire answers on the Hints thread! It's interesting to see what interests other folks have (and it makes me feel better about collecting the *stuff* I do!). I'll hunt up my questionnaire answers from last year and make modifications (like a larger T-shirt size... *sigh*) before posting it here. I'll be back later!

Mine from last year:

Dear Santa:

I'm easy (don't let it get around). As far as Mudcat goes, I've been the delighted recipient of poems, songs and stories, a few books and a wonderful handmade bookmark, music, movies, a bottle of mexican liquor in the shape of a naked woman, and on one glorious occasion; a big box of rocks. The things themselves are precious enough, but the real joy is in the story of where they came from, and the person who sent them. That being said:

1. Age: 29

2. Gender: as girl as girl can be

3. Favorite color: dark blues and earth colours

4. Favorite books: poetry and non-fiction, in fiction: anything but sci-fi and romance.

5. Wanted books: oh, anything with a cover and pages...

6. Favorite music: Chanteys/OldTime/Bluegrass

7. Wanted cd's: nothing springs to mind, all is good

8. Wanted movies: none in particular, not much of a video person really

9. T-shirt size: Large

10. Collections: besides the mud on the floor and the cat hair on the sofa? ceramic bread bowls

11. Hobbies: art, reading/writing, cooking, hiking, gardening and watching the wildlife

12. Jewelry: if I wear any at all it is small and silver.

13. Other: for any of the English Santas, I can't say as I'd turn down tea...*g*

~J

Sigh. The only thing that has changed is that I've gotten a year older and more blessed by my Mudcat pals. This year I can add to the list of received delights: LAST year's prezzie of wonderful tunes, booze, and a big rock, music, books, and the pleasure of the company of a lot of truly fine folk. There is still WAY to much mud and cat hair around, so I don't need any more of that!

1. Age 53 (playing with a full deck and one joker)

2. Female

3. My mother says my sense of color came out of a crayon box. I likes 'em bright, mostly.

4. Like so many of you,my tastes run to folklore and fantasy. Humor and interesting/odd/local history are appreciated as well. I seem to be finding humorous "How to speak (Pittsburgh, Australian, wherever)" pamphlets lately. Great stuff.

5. If I get a New Englander, anything by John Gould. If from Australia, anything by Moses Aaron or Kel Watkins. If from Scotland or England, anything by Stanley Robertson. Used books are a good thing.

6. Mostly English-language traditional, but don't let that limit you. I also like casettes and phonograph records. I also enjoy spoken word and novelty albums. Used is good.

7. For the non-USA crowd, the latest Arrogant Worms cd (Canadian), and for the British crowd, Taffy Thomas's "Take These Chains From My Heart". I loaned it to a friend, and I fear it is lost to me forever.

8. King of Hearts, Iron Monkey, Wicker Man, anything by Buster Keaton except The General (I have that one), Blotto (Laurel and Hardy). Used is good.

9. Large

10. It's more that interesting things accumulate around here. If you think it's interesting, it will probably fit in. I'm not into cutsey things, though.

11. Cooking, fancywork (embroidery, counted cross stitch, latch hook), things medieval (Society for Creative Anachronism, with my three teens. Got anything Mongolian?), enjoying nature.

12. silver, but beauty and good workmanship aer more important.

13. I am omniverous, and not allergic to anything that will affect this project. My tastes run as much to treasures found outside of stores as those found inside stores. Being a fellow Mudcatter, I can't imagine any choice you make going wrong. When in doubt, send edibles. Most Important--- please tell me who you are in the package! I still don't know who my SS was last year, save that it's a 'Catter with excellent taste, residing in Michigan Have fun, Mary

I don't know if I'm the only one this applies to, but I'll post it here, just in case I'm not.

Initially I sent my "Hints List" to you, since you asked for some info I hesitated to post here. Then I posted a truncated version here. Is it too much trouble to forward my original list to my Secret Santa along with my name, address, etc.?

Thanks,

So, whatever Santa decides to send, I'd like it to be something that perhaps they themselves would have liked that they bought, made, stole and decided to share with me.

I've tried posting this twice ... and it isn't working! What's up? Oh, well - try again...

OK - here goes....

1. what is your age range? I'm about to hit the big Five Oh!

2. gender? full blooded female

3. Do you have a favorite color? ummm ... sort of a sea-green blue. I'm told that I'm a 'Winter' which means blues, black, most reds, real green but NOT pastels, oranges, browns, mossy greens etc.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? I love the more 'idiots guide' type of ethnomusicology books. I've recently read Sandy Ives' "Drive Dull Care Away" and Bill Malone's "Singing Cowboys and Musical Mountaineers" ... so that kind of stuff. Also cook books - I think I have every cookie and bread recipe known to mankind, but happy to be proved wrong!

5. what books have you really been wanting? Nothing specific, but stuff like in Q4 is always appreciated.

6. what type of music do you like? traditional folk, archival recordings - would certainly give house room to anything by a Mudcatter.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? I tend to buy them as I desire them! Wouldn't mind hearing some of our Mudcatters' work.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? Can't think of any - my machine can play both PAL and NTSC though.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Mega ... but I don't wear T-shirts except in bed.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? cook books, utensils, hymn books, folk song books, dust, antique textiles/clothes

11. what are some of your other hobbies? potter at various crafts including embroidery and crochet; garden a bit; play a number of instruments incredibly badly (in the privacy of my own home only!)

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? silver, but don't wear rings or bracelets ... or anything pierced at waist level or farther south

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

I'd certainly appreciate something that reflected the Santa as much as the Santee - something local to Santa perhaps? Or even handmade?

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.
Some smelly things (perfumes, powders, etc) don't agree with me so best avoided. I also tend to get a LOT of calendars at Christmas for some reason.

Now I shall just hold my breath for ... how many days till Christmas??

sian

Allergic to penicillen but that probably costs more than $20.

Cat - here in the US, you can get Delivery Confirmation on any package delivered by the Postal Service for a small additional fee. I use it often.

MMario, I'm sorry I didn't get matched with you, or I'd have made you a nice pair of socks. :-)

1. what is your age range?    Early 40's

2. gender?      Fe

3. Do you have a favorite color? Blue. Especially royal blue. But any ol' blue will do.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Nonfiction, biographies especially. My tastes in fiction are very eclectic. If my Santa wants to get me a book, one of English/Irish poetry (dual language) would be WONDERFUL!

5. what books have you really been wanting?    Er, see above.

6. what type of music do you like? Irish trad. Pub songs. That sort of thing.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Anything post-1996 by Pat Garvey (the DC one, not the Texas one). But I'm not sure there are any...

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting? Nothing really comes to mind.

9. what is your t-shirt size? XXL (As someone else has said, "Goddess size.") Something local (pub? festival?) to my Santa would be great!

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Fountain pens. Floaty pens. Salt & pepper shakers. Tarot decks. Elongated pennies. (What the hell are those???!?!)
Cat toys. - no, wait, I just live in the midst of a cat toy collection...

11. what are some of your other hobbies? Cross stitch, writing fan fiction and song parodies, reading voraciously.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? I'm SO glad you asked: SILVER, please!

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like    I have a wacky sense of humor and love really bad puns. Let this guide you, Santa Dear!

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.    Unless you're planning to send me feather pillows, penicillin, or stick me with a needle, you're probably okay. I'm diabetic, but don't let that stop you from sending sweets. (Hey, I didn't say I was a good diabetic...)

1. What is your age range? 46... and a third. But who's counting?

2. Gender? Female.

3. Do you have a favorite color? The color range that extends from turquoise through blue, indigo and purple to maroon – in dark and/or vibrant shades – plus black. But, really, I like just about every color! I don't think I look good in oranges, yellows, creams and beiges, though.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? Lots!!! For what I'd like for my "library", see #5 below.

5. What books have you really been wanting? Art books (pictures of paintings plus biography/commentary): John Singer Sargent; Gustav Klimt; Winslow Homer.
Light reading: Brian Jacques, "The Taggerung", "Triss", "Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales"; "The Great Redwall Feast"; "A Redwall Winter's Tale". Also, just about anything by Orson Scott Card (except "Songmaster" and "Sarah", which I already have).
The autobiography of William Somerset Maugham. (I've perused it in the bookstore but haven't bought it yet!).
Instructional music books: Nelson Riddle arrangements transposed for guitar (if such a book exists); maybe a "how to play banjo in Bela Fleck's style" book since I just bought a Gold Tone banjo and am learning to play it.

6. What type of music do you like? Many types, but I have CDs/LPs/tapes of most of the stuff I like. What I don't like includes (but is by no means limited to) rap, ska, reggae, heavy metal, not-so-heavy metal, and excessively repetitive 12-bar blues. For what I'd like for my "library", see #7 below.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Anything by Bela Fleck! Anything by Stan Freberg! The newest Angry Worms CD! ...and, of course, your CD if you'd like to send it!! Also, I'm searching for a few old, hard-to-find Allan Sherman LPs, so if my Secret Santa sees one at a flea market or something, I would be eternally in his (or her) debt:
"Allan in Wonderland" (Released 1964)
"For Swingin' Livers Only!" (Released 1964)
"Togetherness" (Released 1967)
"More Folk Songs by Allan Sherman and His Friends" (Released 1963)
"Music to Dispense With" (Recorded April 1966)

8. What VHS movies have you been wanting? Brian Jacques's "Redwall", "Mattimeo" and/or "Martin the Warrior" if available on VHS (for US VCR's).

9. What is your T-shirt size? XL to XXL (T-shirt, sweatshirt, sweater). I like designs with cats, and also Christmas and winter themes. I don't care to wear tees with names of places on them, particularly if they are places I haven't visited.

10. Do you collect anything? Now THERE'S a loaded question. I've collected so much *stuff* that there's hardly any room left in my apartment for me and my cat. However, I could probably squeeze in one more of the following:
CATS of all kinds, in all media (except alive, since I have my hands full with the one I've got) – the cuter, the better! Illustrations, figurines, stuffed animals, etc., etc. If a present has anything to do with cute cats, I am guaranteed to love it!
Holiday ornaments and craft items, particularly if they have a special connection to your hometown, state, country and/or culture.
Wind-up music boxes (modern or older).

11. What are some of your other hobbies? I do have some other hobbies but I have all the equipment I need to enjoy those. Hmmm... someone mentioned an instrument called a musical frog in the "Playing the Noseflute" thread last year, and I still don't have a musical frog (yet)!

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Both are fine. I don't wear much jewelry when I wear any at all, and I wear necklaces more than any other piece of jewelry. I prefer smaller, more delicate jewelry to heavier pieces. I do not have pierced ears, or any other pierced body part. Favorite stone: opal. Novelty jewelry such as a cat necklace would be nice.

13. Anything else you feel is important?/allergies/"no-no" items...
Because I have digestive problems and consequent dietary restrictions, PLEASE DO NOT consider sending me any gifts of food, coffee, tea or anything else edible.
Because I also have a respiratory condition, PLEASE DO NOT consider any gifts such as candles, aromatherapy, incense, perfumes or colognes for me.
I was really impressed with last year's emphasis on sending things that related in some way to the Secret Santa's hometown, area, state, and/or country. So, please, educate me – include something you think is really cool about where you live – postcards or photos or brochures or whatever!

Guess that's about it. Happy hunting... and happy holidays!

Okay, here goes:

1. what is your age range? Closer to fifty than thirty. Holy smokes! Looking at that in print certainly increases my mortality awareness. But then again, I am also closer to 40 than 45, so now I feel better.

3. Do you have a favorite color? I like them all, in the right context.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Mostly everything,'cept SF/fantasy and Harlequin.

6. what type of music do you like? Mostly everything, 'cept folk and blues. Ha ha ho ho hee hee. Just kidding. Mostly everything, 'cept the new big hat country stuff and top forty stuff, and some of the rap and techno/dance/old school/hiphop stuff eludes me.

9. what is your t-shirt size? I like L-XL, cause they will shrink. Something in a bell bottom would work.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? I collect foggy memories and disappointments. The tatterered remnants of questionable life choices hang from the cloak that is my life like, um, tattered remnants from a cloak.

11. what are some of your other hobbies? I'm learning the fiddle and guitar. Sometimes I rescue old snapshots from antique stores.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Not much of a jewelry fella.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. I'm interested in your locale/geography/landscape. Where is home? What makes it so? What distinguishes it? What is important? Historically significant? What is there about the place that I will not find out on the internet? What would you write/sing/paint about if you were given a grant?

From: Stephen L. Rich
Date: 23 Oct 02 - 07:07 PM

In our last exciting episode, Stephen Lee had finished the questionaire up through "types of music" (is this intro absurd enough?).

What CD's have you been really wanting? --
There's a Cd out there in which someone collected together the best of Tom Paxton's Electra Records material.

What Movies have you been wanting? Only one comes to mind at the moment. Unfortunately it may be out of print. Maybe someone can find it in an overstock or second hand bin somewhere. It's Peter Seller and Lionel Jeffries in "The Wrong Arm of the Law".

What's your t-shirt size? Don't worry about it. I only wear t-shirts under several other layers during the winter.

Do you collect anything? If so, What? -- Animation. Cartoons. I'm an absolute FREAK about them.

What are some of your other hobbies? See previous question.

Do you prefer Gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? The closest that I've gotten to wearing jewelry in my entire life has been my wedding ring and my pocket watch (the latter of which I will have to replace at some point as my current one has ceased to function).

Please include anything else you feel is important that would help?

I'm very flexible about music. I'm always keen to hear new sounds, new artists, and new songs (even if they're "new" only to me).
Lately I've been delving into British history ( my ancestors were from Wales).I keep finding out things which change my perspective on the world. For example: Did you know that in 1776 the average Englishman was paying nearly twenty-five times as much money in taxes as the average American colonist? No wonder the British government was unsympathetic.

Negative hints: I am as inflexible about comedy as I am flexible about music. For examples: I have only once ever laughed at Benny Hill -- that was in his role in the Michael Caine film "The Italian Job" (one of my favorite movies). I am also the only person in the whole of Western Civilization who doesn't think that the original cast of Saturday Night Live was funny either.

Have fun. Be well.            Steve

I've heard you are a bit of a Weird Sister - do you read Pratchett?

The elves are working on the cabin cruiser at the present moment - it may be a delayed delivery though!

Do you have holes in your ears to hang things from? Or do you prefer things to hang round your neck? Or even to go round your wrist???? Or do you just not wear such things?

And where is nws????? (apart from being in Australia!)

Help your somewhat bemused Sant send you what you would like instead of next year's tombola prizes ;-)))))

Dear Santa,

haven't read any Pratchett (I think my hubby has some lying around the place).... there's a first time for everything though....

I have lots of hole in my ears and yes I love things to hang from them or round my neck or wrist (I'm into silver rather than gold... and anything faery or celtic is good).....

NSW = New South Wales.... I'm in Sydney but Sydney is so big we go by the names of our suburbs.... (hence Baulkham Hills)

anyway Santa... anything would be lovely (while I'm waiting for the cabin cruiser...... *grin*)

Let's see:

I'll celebrate my Jubilee in January.

Not being a noun, I don't have a gender. But my sex is male. (Well, somebody had to say it! And unlike Bucky Fuller, I don't seem to be a verb, either...that would just make me moody and tense.)

I like surprises, and I'd hate to limit anyone's creativity, so I'd be happy with anything that can only be found in your part of the world. Unless it's a sweater--not much call for those in Hawaii!

Aloha,
Mark

A package full of PURPLE is flying its way across the Atlantic (or Pacific) depending on which way the USPS decides to send it. The reindeer refuse to work pre-Christmas for less than double time and a half. Damn unions! (InoBu will get me for that but he has to figure out who I am).
Be a good little girl and don't open the presents until 12/25/02!
