Subject: RE: Carol C. & Jack The Sailor wed today! From: CarolC Date: 15 Oct 02 - 03:24 PM I'm posting this here instead of on the photos thread because I want to be a bit reflective in this post, and I only want to post happy stuff on the photos thread. First of all, it was a wonderful wedding. One of my biggest priorities was for the guests to have a good time. It seems that we were successful in that respect. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and people really seemed to be enjoying themselves. I think the warmth generated by that event will stay with me for the rest of my life. We had members of two online music forums in attendence. Acoustic Guitar forum, and the Mudcat. Ferrara, Bill D, Jande, Malveka, Celtic Soul, Indieman (my son), JtS, and I were the Mudcatters, and Lee (Lecado) and Steve (SteveO) represented the AG forum. It was such a natural thing for these people to get together and make music. And the music was wonderful. Ferrara and Bill D both sang songs, much to everyone's enjoyment. The AG people started up a number of songs with about half of the guests joining in. It was a glorious day for making music. On a more somber note, it seems that there was an inordinate amount of sadness happening on all sides of our little oasis of happiness. I am saddened by the deaths of Little John Cameron and David C. And then there was the ever present awareness that at any moment someone in our midst, or even one of us, might be shot by the madman (or woman) who is terrorizing all of the places where we and our guests needed to be during the weekend of the wedding. I am incredibly relieved that no one who put themselves at risk in order to attend our wedding was hurt in any way. And then, last night, I heard about the bombing in Bali and of the most recent shooting in the DC area. And my dear friend hesperis is going through such a rough patch in her life these days. I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed in the midst of so much pain and chaos. I'm not sure what to make of all of this, except that maybe the world needs those little oases of joy and light to keep the heavy stuff from being too overwhelming. That is my hope anyway. Anyway, thank you, all who have contributed to the joy and light on these threads and at the wedding. I do feel incredibly blessed and I hope that all of you are or will be as blessed in your own lives. Rob is a wonderful husband, and I'm really looking forward to spending the rest of my life with him. Re: my screen name... my name is now Carol Cunningham Dale, so I figure I can keep CarolC as my screen name, since I've still got two "C" initials in there somewhere ;-) Thanks everybody! Carol |
Subject: RE: Carol C. & Jack The Sailor wed today! From: Jande Date: 15 Oct 02 - 04:12 PM Carol... It's just like you to be thinking of others at a time when most folks would be focusing on themselves. Your post moved me, as your posts have a tendency to. You are a big-hearted woman, and wise to go with it. It seems to me that you have got yourself a man with as big a heart and at least enough wisdom so that when he's found a treasure he knows he needs to grab hold of it. :`) Mal told me about the mad shooter the night before we left, and after some thought, our decision to attend your wedding remained unchanged. We would be careful and buy gas only outside the area. We can't allow the poor sad dangerous ones to stop us from doing what is important in our lives. On our six hour drive home from your wedding the next day we sang, improvised songs, and played the harmonica, and talked about the lovely people we met at your wedding. Your folks, and Rob's folks, and the Catters and Guitar Forum folks. All fascinating people, and fun, too! The ceremony was simple and moving. The food was delicious, the music, though umm... aggressive... I didn't know the people who died recently, more's the pity. My life will never be enriched by their presence --except perhaps by what they left behind in spirit for everyone here. But I mourn, because you mourn. Asante sana, Rafiki! Thank you very much, my friend. ~ Jande PS: Mal has the pics almost ready to upload. |
Subject: RE: Carol C. & Jack The Sailor wed today! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Oct 02 - 05:32 PM Carol, my new wife, the most wonderful person on Earth, has made a moving post. I have a few things to add. Thanks to the Mudcat, which was wonderfully represented By Celtic Soul and her Bodhran, Jande and Malveka on guitar and mouth harp. Ferarra and Bill D on assorted harplike instruments and the lovely Carol on Accordion. The Acoustic Guitar forum had in attendance, Steveo, Lecado and me. Steve lead the group in his famous C-chord song for quite a long time and Lee Sang out one of my sentiments for Carol with the old Charlie Pride number, "Kiss an Angel Good Morning." All musicians combined for a stirring rendition of "Jack was Every Inch a Sailor" the song from which stems my Mudcat name. Jande impressed me with her sweet harmonies when Steve and I sang "Cover of the Rolling Stone". Carol and I overlap on the forums and she is made quite welcome on AG as I am here. Our friends at the Acoustic Guitar forum honoured us with a wonderful and special gift. A compilation CD of performances appropriate for and dedicated to our wedding. It's harder to celebrate when friends die. We would have certainly visited ljc next summer when I bring Carol to Newfoundland to show her off. It's hard to run wedding related errands when you have to visit shopping areas which were subject to terror, days before. Some of our guests declined our invitation out of fear. I understand, and feel doubly honoured that folks like Jande, Malveka and Steveo felt the need to ignore their fears and press on. I was constantly anticipating the crack of a rifle and the sight of one of my wonderful new relatives lying in a pool of blood before me. The best thing we can do to honour those who have gone on, is to live on. Our wedding was a wonderful sharing of love. It was not marred by these horrible external events. Rob Dale, husband of Carol, AKA Jack the Sailor. |
