Subject: Lyr Req: Nancy Griffith link From: John Hardly Date: 21 Oct 02 - 11:29 AM I'm sorry to have to ask. I never seem to have trouble with lyric searches here, but I can almost never find threads I want. A few weeks back, certainly no more than a month ago, someone posted a link to some Nancy Griffith lyrics. Included in the link were some rather funny mis-heard lyrics (if that helps jog memories). I would have sworn I bookmarked the link but cannot find it. I've googled all over the place to no avail. Can anyone help? Thanks for listening, John |

Subject: ADD: The Loving Kind (Nanci Griffith) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Mar 10 - 06:29 PM Nanci is performing near me in Grass Valley, California, on May 1. I wanted to go, but the tickets are $50 apiece. I'm listening to her 2009 Loving Kind album right now, and I like it a lot. You can find complete lyrics here (click) but here's the title track: THE LOVING KIND (Nanci Griffith) They were the loving kind She was black and he was white In Virginia nineteen fifty-eight They found love amongst the hate Well the law said they could not wed They married anyway The sheriff put them both in jail Separated 'till they made their bail They changed the heart of a nation with their wedding vows From the highest court in the land Their union would lawfully stand Simply Mildred and Richard That's how they'll be remembered They proved that love is truly blind They were the loving kind. The Lovings lived a quiet life In their Virginia home and while the case worked its way through the courts They brought three children to this world Richard died in seventy-five Mildred kept their love alive 'Till the spring of two thousand-eight Fifty years beyond the hate They changed the heart of a nation with their wedding vows From the highest court in the land Their union would lawfully stand Simply Mildred and Richard That's how they'd be remembered They proved that love is truly blind They were the loving kind. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nanci Griffith link From: Ebbie Date: 13 Mar 10 - 08:14 PM Nanci Griffith lost a lot of fans here in Juneau, Alaska, a couple of years ago when she was the scheduled guest artist at the Alaska Folk Festival. As usual with guest artists here, she gave two concerts (about 45 minutes each) one each on Thursday and Sunday evenings as contracted; she did not do any workshops contrary to established habit here and contrary to commitment ((other than one question and answer session, to which she had gotten the questions beforehand). And then on the second concert, a disgusted fan entered the room to which some of us had retreated after sitting at the concert about 15 minutes and said: Not only is she doing the same songs, she is using the same patter! She was well aware of Juneau's small population (30,000) and relative isolation from other communities. All of us attend the festival every day. Don't like the bad mouthing? Then let her change her ways. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nanci Griffith link From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 14 Mar 10 - 07:26 AM Nanci Griffith sang for about a half an hour of what was supposed to be a longer set at the Blue Mountains Music Festival earlier this evening. In the middle of one song, she stopped playing and told the audience she was unwell and she left the stage. The stage crew got a doctor and called off the concert. I haven't been following her career, and wasn't aware until just now when I had a look at Wikipedia that she has survived both breast cancer and thyroid cancer. I hope what she has now is just an upset stomach, and not something a whole lot worse. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nanci Griffith link From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Mar 10 - 11:15 AM The one Nanci Griffith concert I attended was about 15 years ago, an outdoor concert in Portland, Oregon. It was a wonderful performance, and the price was reasonable. In her defense, I should say that her upcoming concert in my area is expensive - but half of the $50 ticket price goes to charity. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nanci Griffith link From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 15 Mar 10 - 10:36 PM Good news for Nanci's fans - the problem at the Blue Mountains festival the other day was just something she ate. She performed at a Sydney venue last night and all was well. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nanci Griffith link From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Jan 21 - 04:41 PM This afternoon, I stumbled on a 1989 Austin City Limits show featuring Nanci Griffith. It's a pleasure to hear her again. If you can't find a friend, listen to YouTube.... |
