Subject: RE: ADD: Soldiers' Chorus (Shaporin - 'Decembrists') From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 16 May 23 - 09:06 AM The Guest of 09 May 20 - 09:22 AM means to say "It is the wife who is 'all' yearning for her husband, rather than 'everyone' for her." Absolutely correct. The punchline in both verses is "The beautiful wife" – nominative case, i.e. she is the one who is yearning and then crying. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Soldiers' Chorus (Shaporin - 'Decembrists From: GUEST Date: 31 Oct 17 - 09:16 AM I found this thread while searching for these lyrics, a mere 15 years later. In the comments of a Russian-language YouTube posting of the song, I also found the lyrics, which I am pasting here, if anyone is still interested, along with my minor (and fallible) revisions to Google's (at least equally fallible) translation. But I have not yet been able to find the re-written lyrics from the musically identical "Sailors' Chorus" from the 1965 film "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!" If anyone can direct me to those, please do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPFLR4HjFws "Soldiers' Chorus" from the opera "Decembrists" Хор солдат из оперы "Декабристы" (Khor soldat iz opery "Dekabristy") by Yuri Shaporin За Дунаем, За Дунаем За Дунаем, за рекой Шли походом, шли походом На Турецкие войска! ________________________ Za Dunayem, Za Dunayem Za Dunayem, za rekoy Shli pokhodom, shli pokhodom Na Turetskiye voyska! Ey! Vo sadochke, Vo zelonom, v sadu! Charging down the hill Vanya leading the storm! How did she know, sobbing, His beautiful wife. Children! Hold fast! For the truth of the people! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Soldier's Chorus from the Decembrists From: Joe_F Date: 22 Oct 02 - 06:09 PM I have an LP on which the Soviet Army Chorus sings it, but my Russian is too poor for me to extract any words. I'll be happy to send you a tape in case you want to try. |
