Subject: RE: Macdonald's (Songs included) From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Nov 14 - 08:47 PM Here's another one that makes note of the Golden Arches, and this song's even in the Digital Tradition: YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE (copyright, Lou & Peter Berryman -- 1987) Sometimes when the grass is blown by the breeze There's a faraway look in the leaves of the trees, A memory returns heartbreakingly clear Of a place I call home...YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE. No sky could be deeper, no water so clear As back in the meadows of...YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE. I'm goin' to go back, though I don't know when There's no other place like...YOUR STATE'S NAME AGAIN. Oh...YOUR STATE'S NAME, oh...AGAIN...what a state! I have not been back since...A REASONABLE DATE. Where the asphalt grows soft in July every year, In the warm summer mornings of...YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE! My grandpa would come and turn on the game And fall asleep drinking...YOUR LOCAL BEER'S NAME. My grandma would sing in the garden for hours To all of the...NAMES OF INDIGENOUS FLOWERS. The songs that she sang were somewhat obscure, Learned from the local townspeople, Im sure. The language they use is not very clear, Like... PLACE A COLLOQUIALISM RIGHT HERE. I'd love to wake up where...THE STATE'S SONGBIRD...sings, Where they manufacture...THE NAMES OF SOME THINGS, Like there on the bumper a sticker so clear, An ``I'' and a heart and...YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE. Whisper it soft, it's a song to my ear, YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE, YOUR STATE'S NAME HERE. It's there I was born and there I'll grow old The rivers of blue and the arches of gold. @home filename[ YRSTATES TUNE FILE: YRSTATES CLICK TO PLAY BR |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's (Songs included) From: GUEST Date: 24 Nov 14 - 07:19 AM ....with this final verse In the closed down cafe at a quarter past eleven The same girl picks up burgers from the tables and the floor In an effort to disguise them she takes them out and fries them, But you'll still recognize them when they come round once more. Ch It is much closer to McTell's original than the 2002 version quoted above. |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's (Songs included) From: GUEST,John Archer Date: 24 Nov 14 - 07:15 AM It is interesting to see how MacDonald's Kitchen has morphed over the years. I learnt it in 1986 as Have you seen the young girl in the kitchen of the cafe, Putting burgers into boxes in tidy little piles In her eyes you'll see no pride, 'Cause she knows what she's put inside them, When she sees you eat one, it's the only time she smiles. Chorus: So how can you tell me you're hu-un-gry, And say a Big Mac you must find? Let me take you by the hand, I'll lead you through MacDonald's kitchen, I will show you something that will make you change your mind. And have you seen the shoppers at the table of the cafe their parcels all around them and their handbags on their knee-ees They've no time for talkin; as they stick their knife and fork in to yesterday's cheesburgers topped with yesterday's cheese Ch |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's (Songs included) From: mack/misophist Date: 27 Oct 02 - 09:09 AM MacDonald's has to be given a certain amount of credit. I used to eat at the 3rd one they opened. The only burger on the menu had mustard, a smear of relish and 1 slice of pickle, and that's all they had. Of course, you could get one for 11 cents, as I remember. |

Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Oct 02 - 09:40 PM Keeripes (I've gotta come up with some new expletives!) I've been making the drive along the I-90 from Buffalo to Albany now for close to thirty years and the most entertaining aspect about it is trying DESPERATELY not to have to eat my meal or snack at one of the five MacDonalds along the hiway. Pretty much ALL the hiway restaurants are diabolical (S'barro's and Popeye's are the worst as far as bizarre taste) but Missus Fields ain't bad. The problem is that I don't want ten Brownies on the trip down to New England. I know the world loves what goes into a MacDonalds but sheesh, do I find them bland. I think they've secretly upped the sawdust count. Cheers (you can eat mine Bob!) Rick |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: GUEST,Guest who? Date: 25 Oct 02 - 09:26 PM McDonald's? LOL! That ain't food, it's "product", and pretty lousy product at that. If I had a mind to be a serial killer, this is what I would do... Drive-by shootings of inflatable Ronald McDonalds in widely scattered locations all over the USA. These shootings would be carefully arranged so as to endanger as few actual people as possible (hopefully none at all), but would show no mercy to the clown balloons. Rat-a-tat-tat!!! P-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh...down goes another Ronald. I love imagining them slowly deflating, with that idiotic look frozen on their plastic faces. Bwah-hah-hah! Then just to confuse the issue, I'd ventilate the odd inflatable Great Root Bear, while passing a local A & W. If I had a mind to be a cereal killer, on the other hand...I'd stab boxes of Kellog's Frosted Flakes with a putty knife. |

Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: RangerSteve Date: 25 Oct 02 - 07:34 PM You're right, Radriano. I'm a fast food junkie, but that book changed my eating habits immensely. However, I still find myself hitting the fast food places at least once a month, since old habits die hard. Wendy's for the best messy burger, KFC for chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese, Arby's for roast beef sandwiches and curly fries, Taco Bell for tacos and chalupas, and Boston Market for meatloaf, creamed spinach, mac & cheese, and baked beans. |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: radriano Date: 25 Oct 02 - 05:43 PM Read the book "Fast Food Nation" - after you know how these places operate you'll get nauseous at the sound of their names. |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: PageOfCups Date: 25 Oct 02 - 05:41 PM I just had a Big-n-Tasty for lunch today. If there's reports of a worldwide mayonnaise shortage, blame the Mickie D's on University in San Diego. They put it all on my sammich! PoC |

Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: catspaw49 Date: 25 Oct 02 - 08:42 AM I haven't had breakfast yet, and now....thanks to Pied Piper....I won't. I will however be fighting a nasty case of nausea for several hours. A friggin' SPAM FRITTER????....................oy.................... McDonald's is way down my fast food list. The only time I have a "Big Mac Attack" is about 20 minutes after I eat one of the damn things. They have a line-up from hell on the sandwich board......The fish sandwich (McCarp) is a soggy ass mess of gawd knows what indeterminate swimming things. All of their chicken sandwiches (McClucks) are made from what must be roadkill. The only saving grace is their coffee and breakfast stuff and only a tiny bit of that is worth eating. Go to Wendy's if you want a decent fast food sandwich. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: Pied Piper Date: 25 Oct 02 - 08:12 AM DtG mentioning of Spam, put me in mind of that great British delicacy the "Spam Fritter"; a slice of Spam battered and deep fried (aaagh wonderful). All the best PP |
Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: Mr Red Date: 25 Oct 02 - 08:07 AM Thanks Midchuck We are fighting a McDisaster here in Stroud right now. It will be a traffic burden too far while the place they propose to move the bus station to has a building ripe for regeneration and a here's a wealthy tennant to justify it. A compromise I would grudgingly accept. Some wag made a picture with a Big M bungalow perched atop the 6 storey building. |
Subject: ADD: McDonald's Kitchen From: Midchuck Date: 24 Oct 02 - 10:29 AM McDonald's Kitchen Lyrics: Carol McNelly Music: Streets of London by Ralph McTell Have you seen the young girl who serves McDonald's burgers, Stacking them in boxes in their dry little piles? In her eyes you'll see no pride, 'Cause she knows what they've put inside. When she sees us eating it's the only time she smiles. (1st verse rewritten by Mike Agranoff): Have you seen the young man at the fast food counter Stacking one more Big Mac box 'longside the other ones? In his eyes you see no pride cause he knows what they put inside It's yesterday's burgers on yesterdays buns) Chorus: So how can you tell me you're hungry, And say a snack you'd like to find? Let me take you by the hand and lead you through McDonald's kitchen, I'll show you something to make you change your mind. Have you seen the old girl in the closed up Wendy's, Scraping off the pieces from the tables and the floor? In an effort to disguise them she takes them back and fries them, But you still recognize them when they come round once more. (chorus) Have you seen the businessman outside Colonel Sanders, His appetite is fading as he stops and peers inside? All around the city, little voices cry: "Have pity On one more forgotten kitty who's now Kentucky Fried." (chorus) |

Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 23 Oct 02 - 06:41 PM In the song, the trains wouldn't just be delayed. One of them would have to run into the balloon. The then-deflated balloon would cover the windshield making it impossible for the engineer to see where he was going. The train would derail, throwing Little Nell, who just happens to be the engineer's fiance, though an open window and clear of the wreck. The brakeman would try bravely to stop the train, but to no avail, while the fireman plays "Amazing Grace" on the harmonica. When the train finally comes to rest the only person injured is the engineer who has spilled a cup of hot McDonald's coffee on his private parts. Little Nell runs to the engineer and is so grateful to see him alive that she gives him such a passionate kiss that he starts to get aroused, causing excruciating pain to his burnt wee-wee. All of the passengers sue McDonald's and receive million dollar settlements, except for the engineer who receives 50 million. There's the plot. Somebody else do the rhyme. |

Subject: RE: Macdonald's From: MMario Date: 23 Oct 02 - 02:26 PM Many people have claimed over the years that eating at MickyDee's was highway robbery - but I think this is the first I've heard of Ronald actually holding anyone up. |
Subject: RE: Ronald Macdonald holds up trains From: Geoff the Duck Date: 23 Oct 02 - 02:23 PM Whoops...... On Yesterday's News there was an item about Ronald MacDonald holding up trains from Wales to London. There had been very High winds inthe South all day, and a Giant Inflatable Ronald Macdonald which had been attached to the roof of an MacDonalds eatery came loose. It flew off into the wide blue yonder, and finally came to earth across a section of Railway track on the main line from South Wales to London. Obviously for safety reasons, the trains could not proceed until the obstacle had been removed, which - I believe - took a couple of hours. I assumed that was the purpose for this thread. It sounds like subject for a mudcat song challenge! Quack! GtD. |
