Based on a week there during the summer if you want sessions of traditional tunes the best place to go for consistently good music would be Sandy Bells in Forest Road. Some of our Edinburgh based mudcatters can supply more detailed information and there have been a number of threads on this subject in the last year. Try putting Edinburgh in the search box and see what comes up.

There are sessions in Sandy Bells, the Ensign Ewart, The Antiquary, and The Shore Bar, to name a few. There is a folk club weekly at The Pleasance (wednesdays). There are also piles of pub bands and celidhs - check the Edinburgh gig guide if you live in the city. "Craic" is a dubious "Oirishification" of the authentic word "crack". Don't be fooled by "craic águs ceol" as it's usually a guarantee that you'll get neither. Happy hunting.

We have started to maintain a set of links to event listings here. Mostly England at the moment but the list is growing.

I've just looked and found this entry for Edinburgh.

Hi, as a new Mudcatter I now recognise this site to be the font of all knowledge!

Can any experienced members of this cafe society advise me where to go for the best 'craic' in Edinburgh? - the more accoustic the better!
