Subject: BS: If I were in Heaven..... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 01 Nov 02 - 08:47 AM I had a musical epiphany at last night's session. I was playing my guitar seated dead in the middle of four fiddlers playing Irish music. One is a dyed-in-the-wool Irishman who learned the tunes on Da's knee. One is a classically trained violinist who attends Willie Clancy every Summer and thinks Ben Lennon is one step below God. One would really rather be playing old-time, but Irish is what's happening at the moment and it's cool too. One is a converted bluegrasser. So here I am, sitting in the middle of these four fine fiddlers playing my guitar. I'm listening to how each of them is playing the same tune, yet with subtle stylistic differences reflective of their individual backgrounds. Suddenly, it dawns on me that if I were to die and go to Heaven that this is what I would want it to be like! No offense to any of the Mudcat harpers out there, but they can keep those golden harps. Give me a bunch of good fiddlers and stick my butt in the middle of 'em playing rhythm guitar and I will gladly spend eternity right there! So what's your idea of musical Heaven? If you could spend eternity with music, what would you be doing? Bruce |

Subject: RE: BS: If I were in Heaven..... From: Burke Date: 01 Nov 02 - 09:51 AM A big huge sing along led by Pete Seeger, Woody, Tom Paxton in one area. Sacred Harp singing with thousands in another. Then go off to the orchestra/choir area and sing all Handel's Oratorios, Bach's Masses, etc. Note perfect, of course. Throw in a bit of old time gospel & other. My voice, will not give out, & I can hit all the high & low notes. |

Subject: RE: BS: If I were in Heaven..... From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Nov 02 - 10:02 AM ...my voice would be perfect, and I could sing "Un bel di" to bring tears to your eyes. I could also belt out the alto part to every Christmas Carol known to mankind. Or I would be alone with a Steinway Grand and play Chopin flawlessly. |

Subject: RE: BS: If I were in Heaven..... From: Burke Date: 01 Nov 02 - 10:05 AM Mary, alone with the Steinway? If you're playing flawlessly don't you want at least a small appreciative audience? |

Subject: RE: BS: If I were in Heaven..... From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Nov 02 - 10:12 AM no. I prefer the intimacy of aloneness, at least for my Chopin. |

Subject: RE: If I were in Heaven..... From: GUEST,dex Date: 01 Nov 02 - 11:47 PM everyone knows that Elvis is in charge of the music in heaven;but, if he weren't, I would like the angels to combine all of the root-music folk styles AND play them on any and all of the instruments from this planet. there's not enough basoon in folk music. |

Subject: RE: If I were in Heaven..... From: Gurney Date: 02 Nov 02 - 04:25 AM A folk festival with lots of pubs, and a sing-song in every room...Bromyard was like that 30 years ago. There'd even be a back room for the Blues trogs and for Buddy Holly and Fred Astair songs and I'd move as the fancy took me. But I hope not to visit Heaven all that soon. |
