Hiya all!
Does anyone know the chords under the beautiful song "Orphan's Wedding"? It is sung by Niamh Parons on her cd "In My Prime". I would love to sing it, accompanied by my friend, but my ears aren't good enough to hear the accompaniment. So, if anyone could help?...

Thanks a million!
Esther

I sometimes back a friend of mine singing this so I'll write down the chords and post them here when I get a chance. By the way the song is by Andy M. Stuart (or Stewart, I always get the spelling wrong) from Scotland (late of the band Silly Wizard).

I was working on this again the other night but I forgot to write down the chords. What I can tell you, for now is that I do it in Am and theres a G a D and an F in there somewhere.

For the first line use and A Minor shape with a Bass run down the 6th string start with Am then Am with a G bass, then with an F# bass and change to a D at the end of the line. If that's too complicated I think you can just play Am GMaj and D. If I get a chance I'll post a full set of chords some time.

The great arrangement on Niamh's album, including a lovely harmonica bit by Mick Kinsella, is credited to Graham Dunne. If you want to hear some fine traditional guitar playing listen to Graham and Denis Cahill playing together on two sets of tunes on Niamh Parson's "Heart's Desire" Album.

Lyrics are here by the way here

Still working on this, but here's what I've come up with so far :

One(Am) fine summer's (G)morning as (F)nature was (Em)dawning,
And (Am) good folk held (G) tae the church (Dmod)bell,
(Am)Two young (G)lovers by (D Mod) life were dec(Em)eived
And their (Am)story I (Dmod) sadly will (Am) tell.

For (Am) all the town (G) knew of our (Dmod) wed (F)ding,
Now (Am) all the town(G) knows of our (Dmod)shame.
And I've (Am) been (G)broken (Dmod)for (F) ever,
By the (Am)stranger who (G) told me my (Dmod) name.

The G can work as a full G Chord or (in standard tuning) by adding a G bass to the A minor shape. The D Mod is a modal chord that is not quite fully major or minor. It sounds complicated but if you play standard tuning use an ordinary D shape, but leave the first string open. I'm not fully satisfied with these chords but they work for now - and part of the fun is experimenting 'til it sounds right for you.

Funny what happens if you put the chords in without the brackets. You end up with "two young Glovers" and "I am broken for Fever".
