Not long ago (18 months or 2 years?) George (Papavgeris) suddenly started writing songs, and the words are flowing freely from him!
Subjects like the recent loss of the Lowestoft fishing industry, the factory hooter sounding to mark the start of the weekend, our childhood Bogeyman and returning home with no money after hunting work.

He's been bringing these subjects to life for us locally and his empathic talent is being recognised in our folk community. He's produced three CD's so far with another due out in February.

On Friday 22nd November he'll be our main guest at the Comfort Hotel on Holywell Hill, St Albans. This man is really worth listening to, join us on Friday for a selection of his work.

Thank goodness for musicians like George.
May you always have music :-)

I would agree - George is one of the most talented newcomers to the Folk Scene.

My Guru was too modest to mention that she is also appearing on the same night. Go along and listen to her crystal clear voice. She is the only person I know that can sing The Weaver and The Factory Maid better than Maddy Prior.

Also appearing is Clive Rothwell. Living with Mick Pearce (Guest MCP) I find I am very spoilt with regard to guitar playing, so I am quite picky now as to who I rate as good guitarists. Clive Rothwell is near the top of my list.

It promises to be a very good night.

Ross: If I'd known you were going to sell those bits I'd never have let you have them!!!! *G*

Rhiannon: Thanks Honey, (embarrassed) no-one's ever said anything that nice about my singing before (although everyone has been very encouraging)! (Cheque in post). Hope you & Mick will be able to come to St Albans to see George - you're going to love his 'Bogeyman' song! And do I dare mention the song about Breezy??

I guess Breezy's song will feature...Rumour also has it that Vanessa & Christine will be putting in one of their rare appearances together, as a preview of Monday's Herga Charity event.

And I am looking forward to some interesting combinations in the future; Guru with Christine, for example. Two of my favourite voices, I'm dribbling already (it's your loose teeth - Vanessa)

George Papavgeris, 'A ' level choruses, plus more than a a hint of 'greek',Praised by Cyril Tawney as a fine writer of narrative song, with an insight to oil-rig worker's emotion, sensitive to the strengths and failings of fatherhood, genuine twists of humour and in his words bequeathing immortality in song to children of the future, or words to that effect.
It just takes me so bleedin long to learn one that like London buses, all of a sudden 5 or 6 come along together, so I wonder what I'll be singing next Thursday when breezy plays the Orpington Folk Club!
Georges 3rd C D launch is being timed for mid February when he'll be at The Bedford Folk Club
How can we get him into the roots competition? I've an idea mmmmmmm

Vanessa & Christine singing together - that's a rare treat, I'll look forward to that!

Breezy: Roots competition? I suppose short trousers would help....

Oh no! Not short trousers! There are some things that should not be seen in public, and George's knees are numbered amongst them.

Not to mention the legs.

Or the fatted calves.

Guru, Piersy, Rhiannon, Breezy, you are too kind to an old man, and he will endeavour to weave in the latest (yesterday's) in the allotted slot for you all.

if your old what am I?
Dont Answer that .Less of the self-deprecation ,sounds like you're looking for sympathy or you've been tainted by the 'H-Andrews ' syndrome.
School cap and blazer , I'm for shorts too.

'Sound That Horn', 'Leaving Tomorrow', 'Flowers in the Muzzels of the Guns''Countryside Like This','Lowestoft Rock', 'Empty-handed' and a host of others, all well written with magical melodies. If you're into mudcat you'll love George Papa-g's songs.
Already available on CD 2 vols, and he knows what he is writing about
He's the reason people like me dont need to write songs.Ilove his 'May-day' song and his childhood days in 'Memories of Salonika'
You must hear him

Apparently George believes in helping the aged, thats why we book so many of them each week at St.Albans ,next week Jeremy Taylor, and so will Leadfingers be our senior mentor at the White Bear again?

Don't let him fool you - young "Leadie" was the junior partner in last night's "195 years of folk" extravaganza. At least in years. In hair he was definitely the senior.

I still refuse to wear shorts. Mummy told me to dress well in this weather, it may be 20 deg C in Salonika but only 6 deg here, ferchrissake; time for fake fur knickers (oohh! the thought of it!).

As for self-deprecating, an accusation levelled at me by Breezy earlier, I will only state that I have been off that, ever since the parish priest warned me about eyesight effects.

Apologies, I looked "self-deprecating" up in the dictionary, at Vanessa's insistence. I had misunderstood. But still, I will not stand accused of waxing my legs either.

George me dear, If you're not wearing shorts we won't be able to tell if you wax your legs. But I suppose we could all discuss it at length & come to an intelligent conclusion.

You'll never get a bacon sandwich out of MGAS

Try for sage & parsley joints

Live long & prosper

Good luck tonight MGAS - are you going to wax your legs?

Eek, that mad axe murderer is back!

Have been thinking of giving myself a good old pampering but then again, a good pair of Levis covers a multitude of sins - or even a scruffy pair.
