Subject: RE: BS: How to Breeze-proof your threads? From: Lanfranc Date: 29 Nov 02 - 07:12 PM I always thought that BS threads were primarily for shooting the breeze! As for the matchless Dave Bryant - and may he live forever! I also heard had the 'amish were averse to any form of progress. Alan |

Does anyone remember Alan Breeze? Another thought, where's Dai got to, haven't heard from him for ages, hardly a word since the SS Getaway, did we forget to thank him? I enjoyed it, THANK-YOU Dai. Subject: RE: BS: How to Breeze-proof your threads? From: Hamish Date: 01 Dec 02 - 02:36 PM You see, John, the point I'm trying to make is that there is a certain etiquette to be aware of in posting to news groups and the like. There is so much material on these sites - it'd be a full-time job just to read all the postings on Mudcat alone - that people like to have some sort of clue what they're going to read about from the thread title. And if they open a thread which is supposedly about how to string a ukelele then they may not want a whole lot of clutter about a club in St Albans - particularly if they live in Birmingham, Alabama (or Birmingham, England for that matter). Having said that a certain degree of scope-creep is inevitable, and often results in some interesting points coming up. But you'll see that some people will rename the thread and quote "was such-and-such" in the new thread. Okay - (mild) rant over. And (scope creep, sorry!) yes - honours even in Cardiff. We had 'em singing fol-de-rol etc in John Barleycorn. Very friendly audience. |
Subject: RE: BS: How to Breeze-proof your threads? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Dec 02 - 04:08 PM Haven't noticed any of this. There've been no untoward breezes in any of the threads I've read recently, |
Subject: RE: BS: How to Breeze-proof your threads? From: Dave Bryant Date: 02 Dec 02 - 05:47 AM Perhaps John ought to run his own permathread and restrict all his adverting to that - we could all find out how good the filtering is then ! It's OK John - we all love you - really. After all I've probably known you for at least 33 years - and I used to listen to you on the radio (when I was a little boy) when you were with Billy Cotton in the days when you called yourself Alan. |
