Subject: Mudcat CD Sampler Arrived! From: Barbara Shaw Date: 03 Dec 02 - 12:02 PM My set of 5 arrived a few minutes ago, and I have to say I'm really impressed. The whole package is very well done. The graphics look great, and the two essays in the liner notes are beautifully written - one by Amos about the recordings and the Mudcat, and the other by Dick Greenhaus about the Digital Tradition. And wow, I'm listening to people who were just names on a computer screen up until now, and the music is amazing! I'm very proud (and humbled) to be included in this collection. Thanks to all the people who contributed and thanks to all who worked so hard to get this wonderful collection created. Thanks, thanks, thanks. And now I have some listening to do... |

It must be understood that some of the cuts were recorded in more primitive conditions than others, and while I did what I felt was the best Ic ould do with all of them, some are going to soundf much better than others depending on what the source material was. In 1995 and 1997, the readership of alt.music.lightfoot put together two Internet Tribute CDs. They were well-received, and also done by ordinary folks. I like the idea of the Mudcat collection even more, though. Much more ambitious in scope, and it's not a single-purpose fan tribute, but instead a collection of folksongs and originals by those same ordinary folks. With Beth in grad school and me planning to finish my Political Science master's soon, I'd better get a gig or two soon to be able to afford 'em though.... I love the Blickifier, btw. Sure, I know how to just do the code, but I just like the idea of using something called a "blickifier." It's great to hear Kendall's rich voice again - haven't heard or seen him in awhile. There's lots of good music and great singers on these cds. Have to say that so far two jumped out as songs that Frank and I might like to try ourselves: Cool Cup of Water by khandu and Deep Shady Grove by Kytrad. So who is Whitfield, the songwriter of Cool Cup of Water? Is that you, khandu? This is fun! Puts a dent in the Christmas budget, but made a great gift to myself. |
