Subject: Lyr Add: THE HAZEL DELL From: JenEllen Date: 04 Dec 02 - 02:37 PM THE HAZEL DELL G. F. Root In the Hazel Dell my Nelly's sleeping Nelly loved so long And my lonely, lonely watch I'm keeping Nelly lost and gone Here in the moonlight often we have wandered Through the silent shade Now where leafy branches drooping downward Little Nelly's laid CHORUS: All alone my watch I'm keeping In the Hazel Dell For my darling Nelly's near me sleeping Nelly dear farewell Oh, I little thought when last we parted Nelly, thy sweet breath Would be hushed and I left broken hearted Mourning for thy death Though a sad smile o'er thy face was fleeting Tearlets in thine eye Could I think those words my last greeting Nelly dear goodbye In the Hazel Dell my Nelly's sleeping Where the flowers wave And the silent stars are nightly weeping O'er poor Nelly's grave Hopes that once my bosom fondly cherished Smile no more for me Every dream of joy alas has perished Nelly dear with thee Now I'm weary, friendless and forsaken Watching here alone Nelly, thou no more will fondly cheer me With thy loving tone Yet forever shall they gentle image In my memory dwell And my tears thy lonely grave shall moisten Nelly dear farewell |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: THE HAZEL DELL From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Dec 02 - 02:51 PM You can find the lyrics and MIDI to "The Hazel Dell" at http://pdmusic.org/root-gf.html, along with many other songs by George Frederick Root (aka G. Friedrich Wurzel). Root was born in 1820 and died in 1895. Wurzel, by the way, is a German word for "root." He used his German surname Wurzel for his minstrel songs. Can't say I like the MIDIs at PD music, but they do give you a good idea what a song sounds like. I could do without the electronic drums and cymbals. You can find a recording of this song on the new CD by Mudcatter Guy Wolff -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: THE HAZEL DELL From: Guy Wolff Date: 05 Dec 02 - 10:17 PM Thanks Joe for the link to the tune.. It is definatly the same tune and the harmoneys are almost the same.. I loved the computerized DRUMS !! Realy fun.. I think the tune is older then the words by George F Root but thats just a wild uneducated intuative non academic guess .. It sounds quite Scotish with a bit of "Cut & Dotting" !!! This is the tune I played of Oakley at Nellies last year.. .. Great the see all the links Thanks to all here !!! |
