Subject: Query re. The Alamo.... From: Harry Basnett Date: 02 Jan 03 - 07:51 AM I don't know if my memory is playing tricks on me but I'm sure I remember, many moons ago, a reference to a song ( I think ) called 'Lancashire Blood on Texan Soil' or something along those lines which referred to a Lancastrian defender at the Alamo. Dores anyone have any information about this or about any of the British defenders? Thanks, in anticipation...... All the Best..............Harry Basnett. |
Subject: RE: Query re. The Alamo.... From: Dave Bryant Date: 02 Jan 03 - 08:20 AM If you try this site you'll see that at least eleven of the defenders were born in England. It doesn't appear to give any details of exactly where they were born, but it seems quite likely that at least one came from Lancashire. |
Subject: RE: Query re. The Alamo.... From: Harry Basnett Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:02 PM Cheers, Dave...I had a look at this site a while ago...I've drawn a blank so far on Google. I'm hoping somebody out there may have some more information. Thanks again........Harry. |
Subject: RE: Query re. The Alamo.... From: GUEST Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:23 PM Harry, try the references in "The Handbook of Texas Online." In the blank, type in - Alamo, defenders. The items that come up point to books and university theses which contain details about those who fought there. Libraries will help with the books, and write to the Universities about thesis contents. The Handbook website is Handbook Texas I hope this helps. |
Subject: RE: Query re. The Alamo.... From: GUEST Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:46 PM I can get the names and brief sketches of only the first page of the list of defenders, about 50. Try in a couple of days or email the site. Men from the British Isles listed on the first page are: James E. Stewart, Isaac Robinson (Sc), James C. Gwynne, and Burke Trammel (Ire.) |
