Hi As the subject title says my new juicer arrived today. I am really interested in the health aspects of juicing. Do any of you know some recipes for good health? or some sites. I have done a search and came up with Lesley Kenton site which had a few goodies in it. But I am sure the vast knowledge of the mudcat will teach me a thing or two. I will not be able to reply to this thread immediatley as I am just about to go home. I will check it out tomorrow morning (GMT)

Thanking you in advance,

cheers

Pat x

I like fruit mixtures. Grape and lime is the favourite, quantities depend how sweet the grapes are and how sweet you want the juice.

Good fruit combinations depend on a fruit that provides a nice juice (apple, grape, orange, grapefruit) and one or more fruits that make a nice puree (banana, mango, peach, apricot). Have fun experimenting!

I wish you better luck than I had with juicers---I have had about ten juicers over the years(counting juicer attachments for other food processing devices) and they always seem like a great idea, and I always use them for about a week and then they end up in the land of lost appliances--

My favorite was always basic carrot juice, which only tastes good if it has just been made(I always ended up with tons of carrots that I never got around to using, as well!)

Carrot, apple, celery, and cuke is pretty good. But I would have to say experement with the vegtables you like and just find what suits your taste buds.
One thing I know for sure, don't try to sterilize your juicer parts in boiling water.Man I did that to mine, what a fool am I! I distorted it to un-useable.Jeez.
If you have chickens or do compost the fiber goes there.
Peace, Rustic

I bought one while I was in the States (one of the "Juiceman" juicers, expensive industrial model) and I loved it. Still do , but haven't got round to installing 110 volts in the kitchen here yet.

Like MTed, I juiced tons of carrots, but I found I had to add citrus juice (usually grapefruit) to make it palatable. I found pure carrot juice somewhat sickly otherwise. Chacun a son gout ....

My favorite is pineapple, cucumber and yogurt. It's my own recipe, and I don't write these things down, so I don't have any exact amounts, You'll have to experiment.

I confess I sold mine down the river. It was a wedding present, and when I read the directions and saw how many parts needed cleaning and how many carrots I would have to peel, I put the book of words back in the otherwise untouched box and exchanged it for some good kitchen knives.

why would you peel the carrots?
just throw it all in there!
esp. like a bit of fresh ginger
root added when making carrot juice.
i lucked into a juicer demo at a
local store the other day and the
fellow was adding amazing combos
of fruits and veg for delicious
concoctions...apples complete with seeds,
pineapple, and ice , green onions,
spinach, other.
just read the label of V-* juice for
some ideas--no idea where you will find
water cress though!

Good luck......Karen and I juiced the livin' crap out of everything in sight for a few months. I think we may have juiced one of the cats by accident. We had any number of totally and wholly hideous concoctions, a few that were quite good, but most were unpalatable in the extreme. The great health benefits didn't seem to be there for us and financially, my wallet went better with Coke.

It's a big heavy duty job....Champion I think. It's now weighing down a section of my pantry shelves.

Carrot and apple go nicely together, sort of half and half, I think.

I asked for a grinder attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer this year. The mixer came as a bonus from points earned on my credit union credit card. You think it's $259 for the mixer and that's it, right? Nope. Like any precision tool, you have to have the attachments. Three came with it. With my grinder, rather than throw away the best part of the carrots, I plan to make things like carrot salad (with mayo and raisins) and such.

(As I contemplate attachments for the stand mixer, I'm also shopping around to see what bits I really need for my router--with the move to this house I've broken through the barrier imposed at school in the 1960's--out of Home Ec and into Shop. Yesssss!)

Thanks for your suggestions, I have experimented with carrot, apple and kewi - yum. Apricot pinapple and orange this morning. I have been shopping this am and have got plums, prunes more apples and oranges and some watercress.

This juicer is quite easy to clean and is quiet in operation and delivers loads of juice. I hope I stick with it, cos the juice tastes wonderful. I'm sure I'll have my share of disasters......

The juice is part of a detox diet that I'm doing for a while - this is only day two, but no cheats yet!

cheers
