I can't believe we never had a thread specifically about Winters Wages CD! I did a super-duper search and didn't find one, so... I think it is well worth hollering about! (Lloyd, blushing becomes you:-)

Anyhow, for those of you who may not know him, our own Winters Wages does a fantastic job of singing and playing chanteys and this is a CD that shouldn't be missed. Here's what I wrote to WW:

I really love the music and you have got such a fine voice! I esp. love your song to Andrea, I love you so and Nova Scotia Farewell. I really enjoy all of the songs, though, and the musicianship; the musical arrangements are really first-rate, well-blended.

Everytime I am fortunate enough to hear another Mudcatter, I am just amazed, again, at what an incredible bunch of people they are...so talented and creative. (I love the ocean sound effects, too!) Great version of Paddy West, too!

Anyhow, great job, WW and the rest of ya, give a listen! I suspect WW will come in and tell you how to order a copy, or you might check with Dick and Camsco Music, or send WW a PM.

Thanks, Lloyd. I love it!

kat

Thanks Kat. You are so kind and your opinion and view on this album means a whole lot to me. It was a first for me. Most of the recordings were done on old boats, ships etc. Took three years in the making (2 years were lost to my illness) but I finally got it done. To get a copy one can send check or money order to:
Lloyd Jones Jr.
2028 Broderick St. Suite B,
San Francisco, CA 94115

The cost is $13.00 This includes postage. And Kat, if you could tell me how to send Dick and CAMSCO one, I will do it right away.

The songs are: Lord Franklin..Davy Lowston..Paddy West--Away Rio..Blow Ye Winds..Three Score & Ten..Danny Boy..Waltzing Matilda..Liverpool Judies..Nova Scotia Farewell..New Caldonia March (should have been listed as a polka BG) Off To Sea..Donegal Danny and a love song called I Love You So (ballad).

So there you have it. I have pretty much kept it quiet. To tell the truth it is kind of embarassing. Hyw! What the heck. I did it anyway..Regards and again thanks Kat. Winters Wages..Oh! and you can also E-mail me at: Winterswages1@AOL.com

WW, you might want to get in touch with Ron Olesko, who is a member here, as he often reviews new CDs on his radio station in the NJ-NYC area, TRADITIONS. There's a thread on his CED Reviews somewhere back down the track but I do not have time to hunt for it just now. Based on my discussion with him about the Mudcat CDs, I'd say Ron is highly enthusiastic and knowledgeable and would enjoy your CD greatly.

I just received my CD and it is wonderful!   Lloyd has a very warm voice and captures the spirit of the songs. The musical settings are very comfortable and the musicians that accompany Lloyd do a fine job of presenting the tunes. This is a very honest and captivating album that I'm enjoying! I can't wait to play it for my audience!

And to the troll who doesn't care for Danny Boy, you can always skip the track on your CD player, but you would be missing out on a nice rendition of the song that is not at all maudlin or campy like others.

Thanks Lloyd!

Hey, Ron, that's great!

Lloyd gave me permission to add the following from a PM he sent me about how this CD actually came about. He's been a little shy about the whole thing. We have "Andrea" to thank for insisting that he even do it, from what I understand. Anyhow, here's a bit which sounds like they had a lot of fun:

We did this in old boats, living rooms, etc. and on junk equipment. David Solnit and I would change earphones at times as his would not work at times. We would break down and laugh. You should hear the out takes. We still laugh about it now. Poor David with tape on his fingers..they were so sore from all the "Re-takes" **BG

and, a little bit more of the fun:

The album was done in latter 1999 and 2000. I waited awhile before doing anything with it. It takes lots of time. Andrea thought it was beautiful but I had my doubts. Everyone out here was going to a studio so I was shy about doing anything. Then I got sick. I thought that was the end! As I struggled through all the chemo etc I would work on the liner notes. Then two friends helped me... They were able to help me mix it. I did all the arrangements though. I feel more proud being the producer and arranger than the singer. David said."Dont look at me..I'm not singing" Soooo It was up to me. Ye Gads!

**BG** You sound great! Thanks a bunch, Lloyd!
