Subject: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Rick Fielding Date: 06 Jan 03 - 01:07 PM Am I going friggin' crazy? Now for all the Mudcatters who ask themselves this delightful and subtle question every day....... Two nights ago I watched about three quarters of an hour's worth of a film with Ben Gazzara in it. I think it was on the "Showcase" channel. It was about an older man and a young (gorgeous) Russian girl. A bit graphic, I might add! I've been trying for two days to find the name of it, and it simply doesn't exist! OK....so here's what I think MAY have happened (but I hope not). I was lying on the downstairs couch sort of dozing while I watched it. Did I DREAM this movie?! If so, why the hell am I dreaming about Ben Gazzara for god's sake? The pretty Russian actress...OK....but some old guy from some TV series? Hmmmmmmm. Anyway, I've tried everything I know to find the flick. I think it's reasonably new, because of Gazzara's age, and the Actress MAY be "Anna somebody". Hep me, hep me!! Rick (who'd rather dream about D-45s) |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: GUEST Date: 06 Jan 03 - 01:15 PM He is one of the most prolific actors around, and here is a link to the list of his work at Internet Movie Database: http://us.imdb.com/Name?Gazzara,+Ben |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Kim C Date: 06 Jan 03 - 01:23 PM Y'know, I've been having the same problem... I keep thinking I saw Gene Wilder in a musical on TV in the 70s, and it wasn't Willy Wonka. He was riding a bicycle and singing. It was like a stage production or something... |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Clinton Hammond Date: 06 Jan 03 - 02:19 PM When In doubt, check The IMDB folks... It's the best movie resource on the net... :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: GUEST Date: 06 Jan 03 - 03:00 PM I think it's called 'Songcatcher' |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Sorcha Date: 06 Jan 03 - 03:07 PM LOL! |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Cluin Date: 06 Jan 03 - 03:53 PM Kim C, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jan 03 - 03:55 PM Songcatcher? Naw...I thought it was that Shakespeare remake O, Brother Wherefor Art Thou?! |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Kim C Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:10 PM I don't think so Cluin.... I think it must have been one of his appearances on Sesame Street. Rick, I tried to help you, but I started looking at those 20-zillion Ben Gazzara movies in the database and got completely lost. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:22 PM Clinton's suggestion is good. They list his movies by decade, but Kim's right, there's a lot to sort through! Do you know anyone who buys a hard copy of TV Guide? That'd be your easiest, best bet, imo. Just look through the right dates. I did a search on one of the cable company's upcoming listings (it's very hard to find past listings online.) Anyway, for the rest of the month on Rogers Cable (I took a wild guess at the right one for your area) they will be showing two films with Gazzara in them: Hysterical Blindness and Lies Before Kisses, neither of which sound like the right one. Hope that helps some. kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: C-flat Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:23 PM Well Rick, I can tell you that you're NOT going mad, at least not in the context of this thread, because I remember seeing the same film some time ago (in the last 12 months) here in the U.K. Unfortunately, like you, I can't remember the title! I do remember it bordering on the skin-flick though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Rick Fielding Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:38 PM Hmmmmmmm. Well as I said "I've tried EVERYTHING to find it" and that would obviously include all the net listings of Ben Gazzara films. NOTHING shows up, and there's no TV guide listing. It's like the movie simply vanished! Thank you Cflat. Yup there definitely was a 'skin flick' aspect to the part that I saw. Excellent skin I might add. OK, I'll try a bit of the plot that I remember. Gazzara dumps the beautiful Russian when he discovers that she'd been seeing another geriatric. A guy who's a total asshole....and tells Ben that HE dumped HER cuz she started to bore him. In the last scene she breaks her glasses and falls out of her shoes while running away from his limo. Hep me Hep me! I KNOW the film exists! It's only been three nights! Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: GUEST,Lepus Rex Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:47 PM This played on the Showcase Channel two days ago: "STRANGERS An anthology series of emotional and sexual dramas, Strangers introduces us to characters that encounter the greatest threat of all -- love. The series is set in the psychologically intense and morally ambiguous streets of Paris, and tells provocative stories of individuals who encounter unexpected and often dangerous situations in their search for the passion and excitement they lack at home. This daring adult half-hour series features top directors and stars (including Julian Sands, Emily Lloyd, Ben Gazzara, Mark Harmon and Mario Van Peebles). Strangers received four 1996 CableACE nominations, including Best Dramatic Series." You friggin' pervert. :) ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:48 PM Now I'm gonna have a dream about Rick Fielding having a dream...;~) Happy hunting, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: GUEST Date: 06 Jan 03 - 04:59 PM IMDB lists it under his Notable TV Guest Appearances as: "Strangers" (1996/I) playing "Stasi" in episode: "A New Life" (episode # 1.7) 1996 No summary of the program itself, though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: GUEST,Lepus Rex Date: 06 Jan 03 - 05:03 PM If this Showcase Channel is showing more than one erotic program featuring Ben Gazzara a day, something is very wrong. ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Kim C Date: 06 Jan 03 - 05:49 PM somehow I can't handle "Ben Gazzara" and "erotic" in the same sentence... |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: michaelr Date: 06 Jan 03 - 07:19 PM This is no help whatsoever regarding Rick's inquiry, but "Hysterical Blindness" is a very good film, IMO. Cheers, Michael |

I knew it was one of those South American cities! Now who's the goil? I'm so pleased that I didn't dream it! Rick (friggin' poivert) |
Subject: RE: BS: Please help me with this film if you can From: Jeri Date: 06 Jan 03 - 10:33 PM Does this mean no more gladiator movies Rick? I mean, ya got Jean Simmons and Kirk Douglas and there's something there for everybody, if ya know what I mean. But Ben Gazarra?! I agree with Kim C. Definitely a guy fantasy thing. (Too bad it wasn't Sean Connery!) |
