Slight thread creep: article in today's UK Guardian on Lomax, linked to reissue next Monday on CD by Castle Music of American Folk-Blues train. Daren't cut'n'paste it or Agent Offer will take me in for questioning (*BG*) so read it HERE before they take it off-line.

The video, which was first released as a PBS Home Video about 10 years ago, is THIS.

I've seen the book in the shop, and yes,it looks impressive. The original book is a classic and surely a document of the greatest importance for blues history. There's also a film, BTW, which was in Lomax's American Patchwork series, and has a great collection of performances. Unfortunately, not available on DVD...

This is a wonderful book--Lomax had a gift for writing clearly and vividly. That, coupled with his sensitivity to the social and political implications of his subject, make this book worth reading, even for people who aren't blues fans--

Thanks, Stewie. Being a bluesman, I'm definately gonna order this one. Oughtta be real interesting considering how many folks Lomax was able to record inside the various penatenturies in the South. Though his style seemed at times somewhat condesending, that is nothing compared to what he accomplished in recording so many folks. We owe him a lot of gratitude, fir sure.

Thanks for the assist, Masato...

Bobert

And if some of you have an interest in Blues music and haven't read this work yet, by all means get it! It's very good, and good for your insides too.

I hope THIS LINK will work. The CD with the same title has been issued separately by Rounder (Info and all the sound clips are HERE).

The link above does not appear to work. Go to Amazon.com, select 'Books' and put The Land Where The Blues Began in the search box.

A new paperback edition of Alan Lomax 'The Land Where The Blues Began' was published in November 2002. The book has been out of print for some time. Apparently, this new edition includes a CD.
