Subject: RE: 'The Land Where The Blues Began' From: Nerd Date: 14 Jan 03 - 10:54 AM I've seen the book in the shop, and yes,it looks impressive. The original book is a classic and surely a document of the greatest importance for blues history. There's also a film, BTW, which was in Lomax's American Patchwork series, and has a great collection of performances. Unfortunately, not available on DVD... |

Subject: RE: 'The Land Where The Blues Began' From: M.Ted Date: 13 Jan 03 - 08:51 PM This is a wonderful book--Lomax had a gift for writing clearly and vividly. That, coupled with his sensitivity to the social and political implications of his subject, make this book worth reading, even for people who aren't blues fans-- |

Subject: RE: 'The Land Where The Blues Began' From: Bobert Date: 13 Jan 03 - 07:42 PM Thanks, Stewie. Being a bluesman, I'm definately gonna order this one. Oughtta be real interesting considering how many folks Lomax was able to record inside the various penatenturies in the South. Though his style seemed at times somewhat condesending, that is nothing compared to what he accomplished in recording so many folks. We owe him a lot of gratitude, fir sure. Thanks for the assist, Masato... Bobert |
