Subject: Wisgt? From: Will Bakker Date: 19 Jan 03 - 01:38 PM This must be the vaguest question ever. Someone told me about a group from Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island. It sounded like Wisgt.... |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 19 Jan 03 - 02:27 PM Don't know. You'll have to give us more information. How many people? Fiddles are almost a certainty. There are tons of groups. Young? Older? Male? Female? Mixed? |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 20 Jan 03 - 06:29 AM Actually, they were formerly known as Celtitude. Featured prominently at Celtic Colours a couple of years ago. They're from PEI. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: gnu Date: 20 Jan 03 - 07:00 AM moo... "Rawlins Cross from Halifax, NS?" Who's from Halifax ? Oh... maybe this is a new Rawlins Cross ? |
|
Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: mooman Date: 20 Jan 03 - 07:16 AM Dear Gnu, Well when they were still going they were based out of Halifax were they not? (Although as a local you would know better!) All the best moo |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: gnu Date: 20 Jan 03 - 07:38 AM I always thought they were based out of St. John's, Newfoundland... but you may be right. Anyone know for sure ? Their web page isn't up or my address for it is old. I just figured such because the name, Rawlins Cross, is a location in downtown St. John's, three of the guys were from St. John's (one Caper and one Islander) and I first saw them in a pub in St. John's. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 20 Jan 03 - 11:10 AM Sort of half and half, guys. Ian MacKinnon had/has his offices in Halifax. I believe the rest of the guys were based out of Newfoundland. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: gnu Date: 21 Jan 03 - 07:41 AM Well, Joey Kitson, lead vocals (amazing to hear the power and to listen to him hold a note for what seems forever - his performance on "Long Night", a tribute to Newfoundlander Emile Benoit, was more than amazing) is from PEI. MacKinnon is the Caper (Cape Breton Island) I referred to. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: GUEST Date: 22 Jan 03 - 10:06 AM So what is the answer to the original question ? I am curious as to who this group is. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: gnu Date: 22 Jan 03 - 12:41 PM I think I saw another thread with Vishten or something similar it the title... could that be the answer ? |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 23 Jan 03 - 11:17 AM Guest, see the Jan 20th message from Will Bakker. Around 2:30PM. It's Vishten. Will started another thread. Apparently he's looking for CDs by them. The only CD apparently is one under the OLD name, Celtitude. |

Subject: RE: Celtic group from Nova Scotia From: Nerd Date: 23 Jan 03 - 11:49 AM Vishten/Celtitude are pretty good. Saw them at ECMA a couple years ago. Rawlins Cross was formed in St. John's (in fact, it's named after an intersection just off Bannerman Park). But like many groups, they moved their headquarters to Halifax because it's so much easier to tour out of there; they also picked up several Nova Scotian musicians along the way. For Newfoundlanders it was a little weird to hear about "Halifax band Rawlins Cross" because that's a little like a band called Times Square who come from Philadelphia! |
