Subject: RE: 2CD set: Virginia Roots: 1929 Richmond sessions From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jan 03 - 05:12 AM The record company site has a link that leads to the Virginia Roots Music exhibit at the Library of Virginia. There are field recordings available online. -Joe Offer- I made a dumb mistake on the link, but now I've got it working right |

Subject: RE: 2CD set: Virginia Roots: 1929 Richmond sessions From: Bobert Date: 23 Jan 03 - 11:26 AM Stewie: I was in Richmond last moth visiting a friend and he was playing this CD. It's real scratchy and primaitive, but what wasn't in the 20's. I'll tell ya what. Them folks were playing a strange blend of gospel, blues and mountain music. Richmond is still full of old timey musicians. I lived there for 20 years and hope when I retire in a couple of years to move back there. Great town and great musicans. Not too may bluesmen but, hey... Thanks for the post... Bobert |

Subject: RE: 2CD set: Virginia Roots: 1929 Richmond sessions From: GUEST,jaze Date: 23 Jan 03 - 12:40 PM Bobert, did you ever go to the Crossroads Coffeehouse? Some of the folkies who performed there have a yearly concert called "Among Friends" They have recorded these concerts for the last few years on 2 cd sets. I have the first and it is great. Sure wish they'd bring the coffehouse back. 75 cents admission fee(if you had it) made for great a sat. night out when I was in college. James |

Subject: RE: 2CD set: Virginia Roots: 1929 Richmond sessions From: GUEST Date: 18 Jul 03 - 04:46 PM A wonderful review of this album on today;s Fresh Air radio program. You can hear it at the Fresh Air website, choosing July 18th (todays show if your prompt in reading this, or search the archives if it's past date) and then clicking where it says "Rock historian Ed Ward tells us about the Richmond Sessions music recorded in Richmond, Virginia in the 1920s, just as recording was getting off the ground." (The second click is a javascript link that won't make a reliable blue click.) A must-have album! --Charlie Baum |
