Chords for the Morris Brothers' version (in The New Lost City Ramblers Song Book, p. 57):

[E]Nestled in the heart of the [A]Tennessee hills,
[B7]'Midst peaceful pines 'midst the rocks and the [E]rills,
There [E]stands my old homestead of [A]long, long ago,
It [B7]brings back sweet mem'ries of the girl that I loved [E]so.

Thf tune is "almost identical with the G.B. Grayson recording of 'Omie Wise'."

Nice song! Hey, while you're at this, try "After the Ball"... written in the 1880's I believe... Francis Black rejuvinated it recently... The story line is remarkably similar! ttr

It's easier to read with some line breaks:

Nestled in the heart of the Tennessee Hills,
A mystery you'll find 'neath the rocks and the rills,
There stands my old homestead of long, long ago,
With memories of my Darling, the one that I loved so.

I courted a maiden so sweet and so fair,
With Heavenly blue eyes and with chestnut brown hair,
She told me she loved me and that she'd be mine,
But I went away leaving her there behind.

I'll tell you the reason why I left her there,
To roam this old world with it's sorrow and care,
I saw her one night in the arms of a man,
Hugging and kissing like true lovers can.

I went to my home with a heart full of woe,
I packed my belongings, determined to go,
For many long years this old world I did roam,
With memories of my sweetheart, my darling my own.

While dining one night in a little country town,
A stranger came in and he chanced to sit down,
While talking of loved ones I happened to find,
His sister was that old sweetheart of mine.

When he heard my sad story to me he then said,
The one that you left has a long time been dead,
She waited in vain for the day that you'd return,
But why you had left her she never did learn.

Now I am the man that you saw that tragic night,
Wrapped in the arms of my sister so tight,
She was my sister but you broke her heart,
And stranger from her ever more you must part.
