Subject: Amhran na bhFiann recordings From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 24 Feb 03 - 12:37 PM an older gentleman in the area has been asked to sing some of the Irish National Anthem in Gaelic for S. Patrick's Day festivities. Does anyone know of any recording of it in Irish for him to listen to? He has sung it in English, so he knows the melody, but he needs to learn the Irish text, which he has, but can't pronounce. I'm trying to do a phonetic pronunciation for him, but help with that would be appreciated as well. Does it exist anywhere? thanks |
Subject: RE: Amhran na bhFiann recordings From: Noreen Date: 24 Feb 03 - 12:54 PM Yes, phonetics are here: http://www.div8aoh.homestead.com/Soldierssong.html posted previously to threads by Brendy and Brakn- it's a fairly regular request, probably at this time of year too :0) |
Subject: RE: Amhran na bhFiann recordings From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 24 Feb 03 - 01:24 PM yes I've seen that one, Noreen, but if you look closely, they've omitted the last line of the first verse, and the rest of it is full of errors as well - CHorus starts 'inne' instead of 'Sinne' for example, but thanks |
Subject: RE: Amhran na bhFiann recordings From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 24 Feb 03 - 01:26 PM addendum to previous post, it's not complete either, that's why I'm doing a phonetic transliteration of the entire song, I'll post it here when I'm finished, that way people who have more Irish than I can correct it hopefully |
Subject: RE: Amhran na bhFiann recordings From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 24 Feb 03 - 01:36 PM I've found a recording, I hope it is as described, called 'the Complete Irish National Anthem' IRB 1937, it has many songs, including, it says, 'Soldiers Song' in English, 'Amhran na bhFiann' in Irish and an instrumental version, if I've read the notes correctly. I'll update when it arrives. I have found no other recording in Irish anywhere, though there are some midi files out there, but I don't have a sound card, however. |
