Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Mar 03 - 02:22 PM But I also need to drag Brett down to Coney Island for a Nathan's hotdog. There are so many important things to do! So far Friday evening is embarrassingly vacant. We may have to ajourn to my niece's bar, the Last Exit on Atlantic Ave. and drown our sorrows. Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Naemanson Date: 19 Mar 03 - 12:31 PM I'll be tagging along at Charley's coat tails. It's his van, after all. So far all the ideas sound good to me. I want to meet Larry and see the Jackson Diner. I don't think Sinsull took me there. We had dinner at that Argentine place. Of course, this all assumes I'm still living in the USA on April 12. |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: EBarnacle1 Date: 19 Mar 03 - 12:35 AM The ferry has been free for many years. How long since you've visited us? We generally do the chantey sing as a round robin. We dine at Radio Mexico before struggling 2 1/2 blocks over to the sing. Give a call to confirm and we'll know when to expect you. McSorley's still has the same food, etc. In fact, it's probably the same pieces of food that were there last time you came. The only difference is that the place's been integrated. Women at the bar and all that. Drop me a PM for details. Eric |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: SINSULL Date: 18 Mar 03 - 09:02 PM I do miss having 40 ethnic restaurants within walking distance of my house. But now I have a car and multiple spaces to park it. Have fun guys! |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Suffet Date: 18 Mar 03 - 08:53 PM Yes, the Jackson Diner! I grew up in Jackson Heights, and I remember when the JD was a plain old diner in its former location, about 200 feet north of where it now is. It's close to the 74th Street stop on the #7 Flushing Line train, just four east of the 46th-Bliss Street stop and the Sunnyside Song Circle. There are many fine and relatively inexpensive eateries along the route of the #7 as it winds its way through the Borough of Queens, starting with the Philly Smoke House barbecue joint near the Vernon-Jackson station and ending up with the dim sum houses at Main Street where the line ends. In between you will find Mexican, Irish, Filipino, Indian, Afghani, Thai, Cuban, Colombian, Peruvian, and what-not. --- Steve |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: InOBU Date: 18 Mar 03 - 08:11 PM Jackson Diner is the tops, although the little diners around it are all great... I get my plain Quaker togs made accross the street from the J.D. If you guys want to get together for lunch and a tune, lets do it, a mudcat trip to little India. Cheers Larry |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: SINSULL Date: 18 Mar 03 - 07:54 PM Brett has been to Little India with me - Jackson Heights. Try the Jackson Diner. It is where all the Indian families go for a night out. Try Masala Dosa. In fact, bring one back for me. Then head over to Suffet's. Wish I could join you. If you need a place to crash, call me in Portland. I have innumerable friends down there with extra bedrooms. |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: GUEST,Charley Noble at the farm Date: 18 Mar 03 - 07:31 PM Franz- McSorley's Ale House might be worth a visit. I kind of doubt that there is still sawdust on the floor, or cobwebs on the stuff decorating the shelves behind the bar. But maybe they still have the sharp cheddar, crackers and onions. Don't suppose the floor is carpeted now? Well, it certainly belongs in the seven wonders tour, along with the dancing chicken. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Franz S. Date: 18 Mar 03 - 03:58 PM Last time I was in NYC was with Charlie in 1963. Don't suppose McSorley's is anything like it was, if it still exists at all. Oh, well, enjoy your dreams of wine and roses. |

Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: MMario Date: 18 Mar 03 - 11:16 AM *shudder* NYC is # 2 on my list of "places I do not voluntarily visit" |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Mar 03 - 09:31 AM Is the Statan Island ferry still a nickle? Amos- we're taking up a collection for you at the Jez Lowe concert on Friday. Maybe other Mudcatters will pledge, or maybe your neighbors would also like to help you to leave town...;~) Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Amos Date: 18 Mar 03 - 08:48 AM Aw, thanks, Charlie -- good of you to offer the ticket and all. :>) A |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Mar 03 - 08:00 AM Thanks, Steve! We'll consider that but then there's also the "dancing chicken" in Chinatown. I bet Naemanson's never seen that! Then there's Sahadi's Market on Atlantic Avenue. Walk in, inhale, and you're in seventh heaven. Too bad Sloppy Louie's bit the dust... Amos- you've still got time to fly out and join us. Where's Chantyranger when we need him? Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Suffet Date: 18 Mar 03 - 06:33 AM You are welcome to come to the Sunnyside Song Circle in Queens that day from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. It's just a short ride on the #7 subway train (Flushing Line) from Times Square or Grand Central to the 46th-Bliss Street stop in Sunnyside, and then less than a 5-minute walk to 41-05 47th Street (near Skillman Avenue). Call for directions 1-718-786-1533. All acoustic musical styles are welcome. Bring voices, instruments if you have them, and songs to share. --- Steve |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Amos Date: 17 Mar 03 - 08:53 PM There's nothing in the world to beat Manhattan in the Spring, guys -- take a long stroll down Fifth into Washington Square, and then wiggle your way down to the Bowery from there. It's like visiting another universe, I tell ya. A |

Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: SINSULL Date: 17 Mar 03 - 05:01 PM Cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. A rare and beautiful sight. |
Subject: RE: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Naemanson Date: 17 Mar 03 - 04:54 PM New York City! The Big Apple in April! Will the trees have leaves? Will the grass be green? Charley, let's go down into the subway system and play music the poor, the weary, the huddled masses! |
Subject: Naemanson/Charley Noble to NYC 4/12/03 From: Charley Noble Date: 17 Mar 03 - 04:50 PM Naemanson and I are rolling down to NYC the weekend of April 12th to have good fun! We understand there's a shanty sing Saturday evening, 8 pm, at the Seamens Church on Front St. at the South Street Seaport. Neither of us has ever attended this event and we would welcome advice on how it is run. We both like to lead shanties and other sea songs but it's always useful to know upfront whether people take turns singing, or if only the most aggressive get to sing. We'll actually be rolling into town Thursday evening, staying with my brother's family in Brooklyn. Maybe we can help organize another get-to-gether for Friday evening if anyone is interested. Cheerily Charley Noble |
