Where are all the West Coast Yanks? Seems like only me, Jerry Rassmussen, Art Brooks (and sometimes Jenellen) are in chat. Where are Amos, Spaw, kat, Mark Cohen, et. al.? We need you guys and you will love it!! Seems like mostly Yookers in chat and that means nobody in after 10PM Mudcat time/12AM UK time.....come on in, guys!

I don't have a modem at home, for a reason. Since my job is computer related, I have lee way to do this at work. All I have to do is just amaze everyone every now and again with some sort of techie razzle dazzle and everyone leaves me alone.

I keep checking but usually when I am free, which would be 7-10 pacific time US there han't been anyone. Could I repeat my suggestion that we check in on the hour and that will increase our chances of someone being in. mg

Besides, the suicide hotline keeps playing me a recorded message, then tries to talk me out of it.
I wanted TIPS fer christs sake! Talk about Trade Descriptions Act, those guys need looking into.
Now, about the tips. I've tried (1)Sticking my tongue in the USB socket (2)Removing the safety screen (3)Tieing a rope round my neck & hitting "Esc" button (4)Jumping from Windows 98 (5)Deliberately downloading virus programmes while sitting on the modem. Nothing works. I live in hopes of being crushed in the doors of the chat room!!! (Someone suggested "Hitting on Sorcha" but that would be too gruesome and my family would have to clear up the mess)
So what is YOUR prefered method of internet suicide?

well, my preferred browser, Opera, does not seem to load chat properly and crashes...so I have to open a different one, and often avoid it, and the few times I DO go into chat, I feel like I have stumbled into the middle of a very BRIT discussion about local interests. Don't get me wrong...everyone is friendly and welcoming, but it is hard to break into many conversations..(well, I 'could' talk about sex & alcohol...but jimmyt is a mystery...*grin*).....add to all that my slow typing, and it's hard to keep up with more than 3-4 people...

I'm not giving up, and I will try again soon....

Well for the amount of time I can pull together ,I feel like an Almost regular. ! I love the jokeing and fun alot. Tears of laughter many nights I most say. My main problem is that I am putting the kids to bed around the time its getting good. Now I am ready to go on another trip to Yorkshire and am having a real problem finding the time. For two months I ve been saying see you soon and the trips still out in front of me. So watch out you might find yourself having so much fun chatting with these guys that youll end up at the YORKSHIRE MUDCAT GATHERING !! Theres a Bonny Williums garden galla that week end. I wonder if Ben (my son ) wants to do that alone ??

and feel like it is sort of my home away from home/.
I am beginning to feel like the chat room regulars are
family...even though we are quite a disfunctional one...
always good for a laugh or two and a hug or two...and

chat is time-consuming and requires a quick mind and fast typing fingers to keep up if there are more than 3-5 there...some, I'm sure avoid it because they can't focus when so many topics go whizzing by.

(At a party in real life, 2-3 can go over in a corner and ignore the rest, but here, if your name is there, you might feel obligated to pat attention.)

I still don't know why it is more popular in the UK than in the US

It's very rare I have to wait more than 30 mins for someone to come and join me if I'm the only one there... the people that get my goat are those that just pop in for 3 seconds and barely give a body enough time to register their presence, let alone formulate a greeting and type it out.

I usually check in around 7:30 or 8:00 Pm PST,and almost never find anyone there. Of course, the UK is mostly asleep by then. Also check in between 4 and 6 Pm PSt, and frequently find no one....like now. I'll keep trying, though.

Well, yes it can be hell in there at times (BG) but once we get up to about 20 people and 14 different conversations at once, it usually crashes anyway, so what's the problem? And yes, the talk can get very UK-centric, but that's what this is all about - perhaps we need some of you Yooo- Esssers to introduce us to the wider world(?) Bad spelling and typing are not so much tolerated as obligatory, and if you get lost, just put your head between your knees until the computer stops moving .....
