Subject: BS: Elections Coming (US): Follow the Money From: CarolC Date: 24 Apr 03 - 11:15 AM For all of you responsible voters out there who want to be informed voters, here's a site that tracks the flow of money involved in the election process. You can find out who is giving money to whom, who is recieving money from whom, and you can get background information on those involved: Opensecrets.org: Website of The Center for Responsive Politics Here's the lowdown on Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, for instance. |

Subject: RE: BS: Elections Coming (US): Follow the Money From: Mark Clark Date: 24 Apr 03 - 07:23 PM Thanks, Carol. When I saw the thread title I figured I'd post a link to Opensecrets.org. I'm delighted to find that's your initial post in the thread. I've used the site for specific information but haven't taken enough time to really go through it all. It's very interesting to see who the all-time top contributors are and where the money was given. When you realize that most of the money from the top 100 doners went to Democrats, it makes their performance seem all the more appalling. - Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: Elections Coming (US): Follow the Money From: CarolC Date: 25 Apr 03 - 07:30 PM That's one of the interesting things about the site, I think. Many of the top contributors give more money to the Democrats, but the Republicans seem to recieve somewhere between 20 to 30 percent more money overall than the Democrats. I've only just started looking around in there, but I'm finding it quite interesting. |

Subject: RE: BS: Elections Coming (US): Follow the Money From: Ebbie Date: 16 May 06 - 03:18 PM CarolC's link is interesting any time but it is especially pertinent in this midterm election year. A person can have hope but the realities are that when money speaks people listen. In the meantime, here is word from Howard Dean, DNC head: "Confident Democrats Lay Out Agenda Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls." |

And the link is invaluable. If only all electorates knew such information in their respective electorates. "Votes should be weighed, not counted" Schiller, German poet, dramatist and aesthetician.
