Subject: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 28 Apr 03 - 12:41 PM Is this BS or not. Wonder who is the lucky winner? Saddam's Banjo |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Amos Date: 28 Apr 03 - 12:52 PM I dunno, but I find it very hard to imagine Saddam Hussein as a banjo picker!! A |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Schantieman Date: 28 Apr 03 - 12:54 PM ...and why would he sign it? ...and how come it survived?!! S |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Amos Date: 28 Apr 03 - 12:56 PM Well, a lot of good stuff survived in his many hidden homes of luxury. And he was pretty egomaniacal. It's not inconsistent that he would autographhis own magic banjo, but I cannot believe he would be able to make any music. A |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: katlaughing Date: 28 Apr 03 - 01:35 PM And the signature has been verified by "friends" of the seller? How in the world would that authenticate it??? Sounds to me like someone got suckered, big time. And, I agree, somehow pickin' and grinnin' just doesn't seem a fit for ol' Saddam. Anyone know where we can get the CD? |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,Mudjack Date: 28 Apr 03 - 03:18 PM Now I can apprecciate why the attack on Iran was justified, Saddam playing a banjo is good cause for war. More so than for the oil and capital gains. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: TIA Date: 28 Apr 03 - 03:24 PM The WMD has been found! Okay, even if it really is Saddam's banjo, how can it be worth the $15,999 that "Sax" bid on it? |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Devilmaster Date: 28 Apr 03 - 03:56 PM Honestly, by the looks of the 16 bids or so...... No one has taken this seriously. Steve |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Wesley S Date: 28 Apr 03 - 04:15 PM I have Nero's fiddle for sale - and it's signed too. Who wants to bid on it ?? |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: katlaughing Date: 28 Apr 03 - 04:16 PM Steve, I saw a lot mroe than 16 bids. Or, did you mean bidders? Still, not sure how that would show they took it seriously or not. It has been my experience that eBay tries to make sure things are on the up and up, though I do know scams happen. Still, it says on there that the successful bidder has completed the checkout process which I take to mean has forked over the moollah and the booty is on its way to them. $15 thousand plus looks pretty serious to me.:-) |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST Date: 28 Apr 03 - 04:32 PM Kat is right. But it can't be for real. Is it possible that both buyer and seller are in on the joke? |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,duuuude Date: 28 Apr 03 - 04:49 PM Now if we could only round up the rest of those WMDs here in the states ..... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 28 Apr 03 - 06:11 PM There were actually only four bidders. Possibly the friends who verified the authenticity. The banjo looks pretty good for having been dug out of rubble. Also it has no resonator. I would have thought Saddam would have liked a lot of shiny metal, maybe even gold and would have kept such a prized instrument in a heavy duty case. Oh well, maybe someone will find his accordion. |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Amos Date: 28 Apr 03 - 06:59 PM I want his tipple, is what I want -- in a glass case! A |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,Lonesome Gillette Date: 28 Apr 03 - 07:20 PM Dosen't the seller have to pay a percentage to ebay? -e |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Eric the Viking Date: 28 Apr 03 - 07:33 PM I hope nobody finds his melodian! |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: SINSULL Date: 28 Apr 03 - 07:46 PM Or noseflute. A joke. Remember when Pete Seeger's missing banjo went up on Ebay? Another joke. |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 03 - 01:32 AM Yes, the seller has to pay a percentage to eBay. I really don't think eBay would let something like this stand if they knew it was a joke. |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Steve Parkes Date: 29 Apr 03 - 03:36 AM Arkie, your'e mixing it up with Saddam's son's gold-plated guitar, which has an AK47 hidden inside it -- like that one John Wayne had in whatever the movie was. You pull the tremolo arm to fire it; there's a flap under the body to replace the magazine; and the barrel is in the neck, of course. just the thing to have if you get a restive audience! Steve |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 29 Apr 03 - 03:52 AM $15,000??? Does anyone want Colonel Gaddafi's kazoo, will reluctantly let it go for the same amount? Definitely a weapon of mass destruction (in my mouth any way!) RtS (Duck...incoming!) |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: An Pluiméir Ceolmhar Date: 29 Apr 03 - 04:12 AM Why wasn't Hans Blix allowed enough time to discover his bodhrán? |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Dave Bryant Date: 29 Apr 03 - 05:04 AM If they find any bodhrans as well, that should really sort out the "Where are the WMDs" question. |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Apr 03 - 07:54 AM I note that the "sellor" only had one previous sale. I certainly would not bid on e-Bay for anything as potentially as "collectible" as Saddam's old-timey banjo on the strength of that history. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 29 Apr 03 - 08:02 AM Hey, GUEST Mudjack, even by American standards it's a pretty feeble excuse for attacking Iran. |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: GUEST,Banjoman Date: 29 Apr 03 - 10:59 AM Well - Saddam wasn't all bad then |
Subject: RE: Saddam's Banjo From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 03 - 11:04 AM I noticed that, too, Charley. Not exaxtly what you'd call a great track record; it was just a purchase several months back. |
