Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 03 May 03 - 01:16 PM I went there 4 years ago with banjo player Kit Gregory - what a fantastic bobfire - it burnt for about 5 days - great bunch of people |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 03 May 03 - 06:36 PM I've heard a rumour that dave Bryant has brewed up 30 gallons of "old Spikey" ale especially for the event! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 04 May 03 - 04:53 AM I'll be drinking at the tally Ho |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: melodeon king Date: 04 May 03 - 07:24 AM What a great event this was last year. We sat all night around a blazing fire, drinking, smoking, singing, fiddling & having a grand 'ol time. I made several friends and learnt a few new tunes. well worth it! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Sliding Down The Bannister At My Auntie's House Date: 04 May 03 - 10:22 AM hey mexican! - what's a BOB fire? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST Date: 04 May 03 - 10:54 PM Knockholt has a genuine singing postman with an amazing voice. Track him down (ask any local). My sister lived there and I sang with him in the kitchen of their house when he came to deliver the mail. He isn't a folkie, does G&S etc but who cares? He's bound to know a couple of folk songs, and can pick stuff up on one hearing. Rope him in. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Martin Date: 05 May 03 - 05:33 AM Eyup! sounds good this! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 06 May 03 - 06:41 PM As I work for the Post Office I'd better track down this "Singing Postman" we better give him a few pints of Dave's "old spikey" as payment!!! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 07 May 03 - 06:42 PM I saw dave tonight - he thinks that I'm mexican - but he knows I'm Welsh! Anyway all mexicans AND Welsh are invited to this great get together sing-around-a-bonfire. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Christian Ward - Donovan Date: 07 May 03 - 07:11 PM I first went to Knockholt some ??? years ago. It is a superb field - with excellent facilities. Folkmob provide real decent toilets and a fire to keep everyone warm throughout the whole of the evening. You can watch the sun go down - the stars at night - and the returning early morning sun. Guess how many songs and tunes you can get through during that. Also, take the short walk down to the Tally for midday meals, early supper or just a real decent pint. This is the place to be. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 08 May 03 - 07:57 AM Sorry to disappoint you guys, but Pat has only commissioned FIVE gallons of beer for Knockholt. While it will be based on the BRYANT'S PORCUPINE BREWERY loopy juice brew "OLD SPIKEY" it will be a black treacle porter and will be named "KNOCKHOLT KNOCKOUT". If any of the 10 gals of beer which I am brewing for our Folk Barbecue on 8th June is left over, I will re-prime it and donate it to Knockholt. Linda and I are planning to bring our caravan to Knockholt, and will be spending some of our time there. While the "Tally-Ho" is the nearest pub to the site, we can suggest another "folk friendly" pub not very far away if anyone wants a session. "The Bricklayers Arms" is at Chipstead just down the hill towards Sevenoaks - you can probably see it from the site - you can definitely see the lake that it's next to. It's lovely pub serving Harvey's beer on gravity feed, the stone floor gives it wonderful acoustics. It's a regular venue for "Travelling Folk" and it's on the circuit of "Ravensbourne Morris". |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 08 May 03 - 10:44 AM The Bricklayers looks like a good bet! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 10 May 03 - 07:53 AM Joe Bazouki may be dropping by for a fireside session during the day!! He's gigging most nights that week. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 11 May 03 - 04:07 AM There's a rumour that Dave Kenningham will be there! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,sadie Date: 11 May 03 - 06:17 AM Are there loos there? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 12 May 03 - 04:22 AM There's a portaloo - and plenty of bushes ! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST Date: 13 May 03 - 04:09 AM there's 2 portaloos actually. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 13 May 03 - 05:44 PM I was first persuaded to go to Knockholt some nine years ago. I enjoyed it so much I have been going back since. I still remember when we had the old chemical loo stuck in the middle of the field. You zipped up the frame and hoped that it would not collapse whilst you were inside it(It often did). How things have come on since then. We might even up the 2 to 3 at this rate. It is a really good site and you may receive the odd visit from a friendly horse or sheep ( okay I'm joking they are kept in the next field but they are friendly) - The rustling fire keeps going all night and there is the chance to try out all those new songs - there is always an appreciative audience. Starting from tomorrow I am going to be putting some Knockholt photo's on my web site - DB should take a look - PS Dave great idea about the 'Knockholt Knockholt'. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 May 03 - 04:16 AM Get it right Kenningham - it's Knockholt Knockout - and you haven't even drunk any yet ! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Dave K Date: 14 May 03 - 07:09 PM Sorry Dave - Another spelling mistake - Could you please post me a couple of advance pints - for review purposes you understand. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 May 03 - 04:26 AM I'll send it as an e-mail attachment - make sure that you have a suitable container in place when you open it. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Zonked Date: 17 May 03 - 12:08 PM Sorry I've intercepted the email - good stuff! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 17 May 03 - 12:10 PM Joe Bazouki & The Missing Puddings are rumoured to be doing a guest spot this year! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,DaveK Date: 17 May 03 - 05:44 PM Certainly missed out on the e-mail attachment. If this is like the beer Dave brewed last year we are in for an excellent treat. Nice to hear Joe may be there. Hopefully some of Monokey are also turning up.Shame it will be the first year for ages without Nigel. We need a video link. Starting to put some new photo's on the web site -Who can remember the old house in the adjacent field - I know - it is difficult to remember much at all after a weekend at Knockholt. Nothing to do at all with Knockholt but Fraser Nimmo is on at the Tudor Barn next Wednesday - I believe as a kick off to his new CD Launch and summer gig with Show of Hands. Is this right?. Finally,is it true that there are going to be a number of new workshops at Knockholt?.I enjoyed the bodhran, harp and guitar workshops last year. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: cockney Date: 17 May 03 - 07:24 PM It would be great to see Mr K - WORKING!!! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST Date: 17 May 03 - 09:07 PM I didn't know that SINGIN' POSTMAN WAS STILL GOIN! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Edward Date: 20 May 03 - 09:36 AM Is there a PA or is it a sing around? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: GUEST,Judy Date: 20 May 03 - 06:31 PM I've heard about this one, supposed to be real good - who else is playing besides Joe Bazooki? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 20 May 03 - 06:33 PM Me, Dave Bryant, Dave Kenningham & a host of great stars. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dead Horse Date: 21 May 03 - 08:26 AM If the MkI Experimental Motorised Bungalow is up to it, me & misses will attempt the massive journey of more than 15 miles. The AA has been forewarned. Kay will be bringing her portable dance floor, but at 2ft x 2ft 6in, it aint up to massed display teams or N.W. Morris. Will there be banjo accompaniment? (I dont relish singing "South Australia" at breakneck speed anymore, getting too old!!!) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 22 May 03 - 04:33 AM I'll probably have a small PA (the one we use at our BBQs) with me if anyone needs it - complete with a battery and inverter to run it. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: melodeon king Date: 22 May 03 - 09:46 AM You can't plug a bass guitar into it ? |

Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 25 May 03 - 06:30 PM It is a small ( 50 or so )gathering of nice people who like to sing & play acoustic music around a fire in a field ALL NIGHT and have a few beers - coool!!! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dipsodeb Date: 26 May 03 - 04:10 AM Knockholt also falls over the weekend of the summer solstice (June 21st) it's a time to spend around the fire with friends and celebrate the turning of the year. Now Midsummer Solstice is year's shortest Night. The longest of Day's and summer's full height. Diana, creatress, great mother and queen with her consort, Herne Oak-King, out walking is seen. Midsummer we dance, we dance round the fire rejoicing the turning of year twixt Solstice and lammas, the flowers give way to fruit, nuts and berries, and corn day by day. Blessings |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: mexican Date: 26 May 03 - 07:29 AM Wow! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Sliding Down The Bannister At My Auntie's House Date: 26 May 03 - 11:49 AM It's a shame that Nigel saunders will not be there this year, he was a great laugh. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent From: Dipsodeb Date: 26 May 03 - 02:20 PM Yep we will really miss him, but the show goes on as they say, and the BAR IS OPEN, goes without saying, so we will have to have a few slammers and think of him. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent (festival) From: GUEST,DaveK Date: 26 May 03 - 06:04 PM Nigel not only improvised with a makeshift bar last year - and at two in the morning - I still have memories of him serving up coctails under a clear starlit sky - heaven!. He is also the one who put together the Knockholt shower - The first time we have been able to provide one. Great shame he will not be at this year's festival. However, our loss is Australia's gain and I am sure we will see him again. Do we know if Kit is going this year - there is a shortage of banjo players. Are there going to be any rambles - never seem to get further than the Tally - Ho?. Johnny Phelps has pledged to come on Saturday - well worth the wait. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt, Kent (festival) From: Sliding Down The Bannister At My Auntie's House Date: 27 May 03 - 06:59 PM Just had a pint with my mate Big "D" he's going ther - and bringing some special beer! |
