Subject: Want a good Student Guitar From: harper Date: 06 May 03 - 07:06 PM My husband thinks I'm crazy. I can play a 62 string hammered dulcimer, a 31 string celtic harp, and other assorted stringed instruments - and would love to play guitar. He bought me one, a few years ago. Inexpensive and the action was high and stiff, and I could never move my fingers from one chord position to another quickly enough... I've been told that with a better guitar, I could have learned much more easily. My question is: I don't want to spend a fortune on this instrument, but I want something that I can learn on...... What brand do you recommend? (I know NOTHING about guitars.) |

Subject: RE: Want a good Student Guitar From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 06 May 03 - 07:40 PM Look at the active thread: Canadian made guitars - opinions please You should find some good information there. If your action is too high a setup may make it quite playable. |

Subject: RE: Want a good Student Guitar From: Walking Eagle Date: 07 May 03 - 12:26 AM I had a nice Dixon as a start up. The action was too high though and it had to be lowered. It had some other problems for a 'leftie' but I muddled through enough to play with our folksinging group. Then an INCREDIBLE deal came up for a 'leftie' Martin and that was all she wrote. Check Martins as well. They have a decent guitar for around $400 or less. You can have a look at them either at the Martin website or www.elderly.com. Elderly has fairly good prices on all of their instruments. Definately try something out before buying online though. Good luck! |
