Don't worry about it -- Jan Simondsen (sp?) is an independent in the Norwegian Parliament, very right wing, and an embarassment to the country. Most Norwegians think he is slightly nuts. He is flamboyant, always on the lookout for media exposure, and thus likes to do the outrageous.

Nobody takes him seriously. Seriously.

Don, I think you're onto something there!! That explains so much -- the way slaughter is considered a matter of levity, and the "I can't help it -- it's the way I was drawn" mindset so poular these days. And the strange unreality of people who presumablyhave high school educations. And so many other things!! So we don't have to worry about Bush -- he was elected by a cartoon court in a cartoon process.

Did you see the picture in the paper this morning of him accepting the honorary law degree? The facial expression was priceless. Even Clinton could smirk through this process, implying (to me anyway) that he knew it was a joke, but Dubya no longer smirks....he just looks bewildered.....he's as caught up in this comic book reality as everyone else now.

What do you wanna bet that he actually thinks he IS a peacemaker?

Interesting thought, GUEST. I'm not inclined to give him that much credit, but he IS a lot like Ofglen's Commander, in that he thinks that morality is something for other people, and can't imagine that some of the folks he's holding hands with might be biding their time before they can turn and condemn him for his past "sins."

That book has always scared the piss out of me -- not because it's a cautionary tale of some possible future, but because it happens NOW in many places. There's no reason to have faith that it couldn't happen here, too, led by the same kind of moral perverts who proclaim morality as something they define for other people which being exempt from themselves.

For my part, my relationship with Bush is a constant. Call it 'null'... What amazes me to distraction, is the sheer inertia of the American public, a gargantuan and guiltless multitude, that believe in Bush. What kind of education did they get, and where is their sense of conscience?

Can anyone think of one single religiously santifiable reson that so many have died? ...I didn't think so.

Perhaps Hollywood has made this possible, and X-box keeps the recruits sharp and ready...

Bush was caught by events, and IMHO made the right calls over Iraq and Afghanistan, if maybe, and only maybe, for the wrong reasons.

This does not make him a striver, or achiever, for peace.

Kissinger was, and is, pure evil.

Historical Query. Am I right in thinkng that in 1939 it was proposed that Nevill Chamberlin and Adolf Hitler were proposed for a peace prize, but events in September of that year overtook matters.

BTW Nobel invented dynamite, a stable an realatively safe to handle form of high explosive, much used by civil engineers.

Well, now you know how I felt when Clinton was nominated a couple of years ago...

And actually, (though I do like what Bush has done) I do believe that Tony was the man of the match, and probably deserves it more than any person who comes to mind at this moment. He had the most to lose, clearly spoke from conviction, tried to work with two opposed sides, gave moral force to the arguement, and is now trying to reconcile the US and the EU.

There are others, George Mitchel for his work in Ireland, for example. But the list is short...
