What does the 'Early Doors' mean? Possibly 'The Doors'/Jim Morrison, etc?

It means going to the pub after office or work hours around 4.30p.m.-6.30p.m. before you go home. Usually it's a certain type of crowd who frequent then. Like I've said I think the song is worth singing because of the line about Jim Couza

Jim - if the song was written by Dave Vermond, he appears to be currently playing with a band called The Recidivists, who have a website.BLICKY!!!
Perhaps you could get the info directly by contacting him there.
Geoff.

Here we go then - Jude responds with thanks from Dave Vermond for writing a great song about a great tradition of drinking at tea-time!

Sun shines through a dusty curtain
The clock's fast but I'm not certain
Any minute now they're gonna open that beautiful door
I'll be in heaven once more
5.30 is a magical time, Pavlov's bell begins to chime
a sunny summers evening in July
Why don't you give it a try

They go

Ch:
Early doors , early doors, my favourite time of day - what's yours
Thankyou kindly I don't mind if I do.

The landlord's Gordon played a few games for Spurs
He thinks it's his pub but the wife knows it's hers
They're off to Tenerife wheneve they can
to get the year round tan.
Gordon's upstairs sleeping off lunchtime, a old joke with a regular punchline
but he'll be down for the evening show & the punters all know...
Ch;

It's too late & I've drunk too much to remember the rest but I will continue......

EARLY DOORS

Sun shines through a dusty curtain
Clock's fast but I'm still certain
Any minute now they're gonna unbolt that beautiful door
We'll be in heaven once more.
5.30 is a magical time, Pavlov's bell begins to chime
a sunny summer's evening in July
why don't you give it a try.

Early doors, early doors/favourite time of day
What's yours

The landlord's Gordon, played a few games for Spurs
Thinks it's his pub but the wife knows it's hers
They're off to Tenerife whenever they can
To get a year round tan.
Gordon's upstairs sleeping off lunchtime
Old joke/regular punchline
But he'll be down for evening shoiw/punters all know.

It's a Place where everyone mingles & thejukebox only plays singles
Reg & Ken sing theold songs once a week
Down in the bar it's warm & smoky & they never ever have Karaoke
The Only place in town you can hear yourself speak that makes it quite unique.

It's just a little street corner boozer scarcely big enough for Jim Couza
A snug & a public & a room where no-one goes
Darts & doms & a shoveha'penny table, not trace of Carling black label
The Beer tastes like nectar from the bestbeehive it makes you glad to be alive.

In these days of compulsory leisure where accountants plan our pleasure
ED is still my favourite dream.
There's Maisie polishing the glasses & the crowd from the evening classes, lawyers&labourers&everyone in between
So Like our mums & our dads before us, raise your glasses& join in the chorus if want good dreams to come true
You know Exactly what to do

Ta muchly Jude. I promise not to sing it when you is theere my love.
It's the new (and very good Craig cash) sitcom that brought the song to mind and (un)fortunatly I've been singing it in me head since.
I'd rather you 'chucked' me (ha! ha!).
Love and kisses from the Fat One

Snuffy

You know, Jim Couza, brilliant American hammered dulcimer player. I once heard him sing a wonderful song about prohibition. Before Castro, Americans used to go to Cuba for early doors. The last line of the chorus is I'll C U in C U B A.
