Subject: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Aug 98 - 05:16 PM Tom posted this request in a thread with a generic title. I thought it might get a better response in its own thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: RE: Trying to find this song From: Tom Hourigan This is a repeat request, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP Date: 14-Jul-98 - 03:31 PM I've been looking for this song for 11 years! Its a strong throaty sorta country song by a female artist. Its a song about reflecting back over her relationship and summing it up should it ever end. The refrain sums it up as a whole lot of sunshine and "just a little bit of rain". I would love to find this song as it helped me through some very rough times keeping my focus on the positives (although sometimes hare to find). Thanks in advance for any help you can be. Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Aug 98 - 05:28 PM Well, Tom, I'm just guessing that it might be the Fred Neil song, "Just a Little Bit of Rain." It was recorded by Linda Ronstadt, alone and with the Stone Poneys, and she certainly has a throaty, country-sounding voice. Mick Harvey and Jose Feliciano also recorded it. Trouble is, I don't remember the song at all, and I couldn't find lyrics anywhere. You could click here and go to one of the online vendors in the "Support Mudcat" area. I know the Feliciano album is available. Like I say, though, I can't tell if it's the right song. Maybe Art Thieme will know - I'll betcha he knew Fred Neil. Anybody else know the song? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: anne Date: 12 Aug 98 - 10:55 PM If the song was recorded with the Stone Poneys, find Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen's web page and ask him. I believe he was a Stone Poney. Good Luck |
Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: rich r Date: 12 Aug 98 - 10:56 PM Joe seems to have nailed the song. I went and pulled out my Stone Poneys vinyl and it apears to be a good match. The song is short so I will try to get it transcribed in a couple days if no one else comes up with it

Subject: Lyr Add: JUST A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN (Fred Neil) From: Art Thieme Date: 13 Aug 98 - 12:46 AM from Fred Neil (probably the best male voice on the 60's folk scene in the U.S--not trad but a great vocalist!!!!) from his Elektra LP---BLEEKER AND McDOUGALL (You can tell from the spelling I know very little about New York)
If I should leave you try to remember the good times,
And if you look back try to forget the bad times,
And if I look back I will remember all the good times, (Hope this is what you want!---Art Thieme)

Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Aug 98 - 02:43 AM Ya know, it's very embarrassing when I ask for help on a song, only to realize I had a recording of the song myself. I've got that Elektra "Bleecker and MacDougal" collection! I'm sure glad your memory's better than mine, Art. Elektra had some wonderful folk recordings, and this album has some of the best. I wonder why the company hasn't reissued more. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Aug 98 - 03:22 AM I don't think that Steve Gillette was one of the Stone Poneys, Anne, but there certainly seems to have been a connection. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Art Thieme Date: 13 Aug 98 - 05:01 PM I do remember a Steve--Linda duet on 2:10 Train---an early SG song. Just wrote to him to ask about those days. Art |
Subject: RE: Just a Little Bit of Rain From: Art Thieme Date: 04 Jan 99 - 12:30 AM Nope Joe, Steve never was a St. Pony---from the pony's mouth. Did sing some with Linda though. Takes me a while sometimes... Art |
