Subject: RE: BS: Any Catters near the Outer Banks? From: Rapparee Date: 18 Jun 03 - 08:56 AM Haven't been down to the Outer Banks in some years, but there are some very good restaraunts. Also, go out on the beach (ocean side) and fly a kite (there was a kite store in Kitty Hawk, as I remember). The winds are so good and so steady that once the kite is up you can tie it and forget it. Speaking of Kitty Hawk, this IS the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' flight there -- I would definitely visit the monument, yup. At night, when the beach is empty, is a good time for stargazing with a pair of binoculars (10x50 or better is best) or a small telescope. You'd be surprised how far you can walk, too; if you do, put a lightstick on your exit from the beach so you can find your way back (they've even got some with sticky adhesive on the back). You can drive to and visit the site of Raleigh's lost colony, too. There used to be an outdoor theatre on the story. Drive down the banks and visit Ocracoke. Along the way, try to visit the Cape Hatteras lighthouse and the Chicamaconaco Lifesaving Station. Whatever you do, be sure to clean up after yourself. And use a good sunscreen (assuming the sun comes out). Have fun! |
