HELP!!! A hundred years ago, I saw a fellow do "Smokey Joe." It was the most incredible card trick I've ever seen. I'm not at all sure that "Smokey Joe" is the correct name. It starts like this: a deck of cards he gives to you. You both shuffle. Then you both cut. The he starts the monologue. The story line takes you back to the King Arthur days and goes something like this: Once, there was a King, and he turns up a card, and it's the KING, who courted a Queen, and he turns up a QUEEN. On and on. The story is quite charming and fanciful. Beyond the story is the trickery. How can he do that, predicting the card before he sees it? If anyone can help to give me a lead on this bit of fancy, I'd be very appreciative. CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson

I don't know that particular trick but a good magician could easily get one jump ahead ... sneaking a look at a card and then making up the story and flashing the card he had already seen.

Edmund, I know those skills. Thanks for your post. A large puzzel I have is the story line. With the rythmn with which it was delivered, and the cadence, I swear I could have put it to music. It was quite something! CHEERS, Bob

Sounds like he switched decks.

There is such a thing as a shaved deck, in which certain cards are a slightly different length than the others. I saw one demonstrated once. Since the guy didn't have to look, he could stand close, stare you n the face, and tell you what card he was showing without doing anything obvious at all.

Hmmm? Shaved deck ... possible. What really made this trick so fascinating was the story line. It was a non stop 5 or 10 minute story. Thanks for all the input. Bob
