Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: kendall Date: 06 Jul 03 - 05:40 PM I don't like the idea of giving out my e mail address and password for all to see. I get enough spam as it is. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: Giac Date: 06 Jul 03 - 05:44 PM I've never had spam from being signed up on PalTalk, and it's working now, not like it used to be, Kendall. Good stuff there. Mary |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 06 Jul 03 - 06:20 PM I just had to leave, with only Scalliwag in attendance, with a hat to keep the thing live. I don't know how long he intended to wait for customers. We had a real shortage of singers, so I sang and sang and sang for the apparently satisfied few listeners, but the throat will only take so much work and abuse before you gotta quit. I think everybody had a good time. I KNOW that I did! Dave O. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: IvanB Date: 06 Jul 03 - 07:39 PM kendall, you don't have to have your email address visible to everybody on PalTalk - just click on File/Setup in the Paltalk sign-on window, then uncheck the boxes for any info you don't want public. As for passwords, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Your Paltalk password is never visible to anybody else unless you tell them. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: GUEST,celtaddict at work (no cookie) Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:00 PM Whatever this is, it sounds worth checking out. Is this an online singaround? Please let me (or, I assume, us) know what this is all about and how to join you next time! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: kendall Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:31 PM I don't have Pal tslk, so, I went to download it, and they require my e mail and password to do so. Maybe I could give them one I no longer use. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: Francy Date: 06 Jul 03 - 09:46 PM I've never had any spam from the paltalk signup and i made up a password...That's just for registration...Just get on Paltak and enjoy it.....It's great.. and doesn't cost anything but your time and voice//////what a deal...Frank of Toledo |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: GUEST,Jon Date: 06 Jul 03 - 10:23 PM Paltalk seem to change the rules. Sometimes, can't remember whether upgrading or signing on from a new computer, I have been prompted for giving details of inerests and had to select from them to be allowed to join the free acount. Perhaps not spam but it does mean you get emails from them and associates from time to time. I just created a new account to see what happens. This time, I didn't get that but they had a new one on me - a requirement to confirm an email address is vailid - i.e. when you register, you get sent an email address to the address you registered with and have to take action on that before the account is activated. I think that sometimes the best plan with email addressess is to get a "throw away one" like a free yahoo, hotmail, msn or whatever. You have the address if you really need it for the sort of thing mentioned above and perhaps for things like getting a password reminder if needed. Otherwise, you can just bin anything that comes to that account. Jon |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: open mike Date: 06 Jul 03 - 10:37 PM oh i am sorry i did not hear about this til it was over.. I have not opened my mud cat room for a while now. i used to do it every thursday. I will try to do it next thurs. from 8-10 pacific time. will post an invite before that time. Laurel ps Dave, i am glad you have your own room now, so you can go on any time!! sorry i missed you, i always enjoy meeting with you online. oh, and Celtaddict: Yes it is an on-line sing-around. You go to www.paltalk.com and download their software. it does not take very long and is not very large. then when you choose a nick name, you can go there and there are lots of "rooms" to choose from. I always go to the groups section and pick Music. There are often 100 or more people using this service4 at any one time. If you have a microphone and speakers you can join in. If you only have speakers you can listen, anyway. (there are cameras too, but I do not have one) people who are there for free can see still photos, and from what i understand people who choose to get a paid membership are able to receive moving pictures. The music rooms which are the best are ones which say "LIVE" in the title, or acoustic. Some rooms have "no singing" which i presume means only pre-recorded tunes. I would suggest to stay away from the Kareoki rooms (unless that is waht you like) some people in them cannot carry a tune in a bucket, but they insist on trying to sing along with a recording, when it would be better to just let the recording play without messing it up with an off-tune attempt to copy the song.... my room is called mud cat live acoustic jam, and Frank hosts a folk jam, too. GOOD STUFF!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: Janie Date: 07 Jul 03 - 11:47 PM Well over a year ago I tried to sign onto Paltalk (the free version)and I finally gave up. I can't recall now what all the problems were. I think it was a combo of not being able to figure out some things, some parts of it not working as it should, and finding it too much of a hassle otherwise. Is it better/easier, etc. now? Janie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: kendall Date: 08 Jul 03 - 08:46 PM I got stuck in a loop. Screw it. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: Bill D Date: 08 Jul 03 - 08:46 PM it is not 'easy', Janie...I also couldn't get in until I re-installed Windows and cleared whatever mistakes I had made. This time the 'secret' seemed to be that you had to go to the Paltalk page and get your name registered and signed up BEFORE you installed the program. I think they have made the whold thing too tedious, but it is nice when it works. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: open mike Date: 08 Jul 03 - 09:44 PM i do not think it works with Macs.. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Live Room Open July 6 '03 From: GUEST,Jon Date: 08 Jul 03 - 10:09 PM No it doesn't Open Mike although it may just be possible to find a Windows emulator for a Mac to run it. |
