Subject: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Kiwi Date: 17 Aug 98 - 09:44 PM Heyla, I'm not sure that this song properly qualifies as folk, it's more in the line of Celtic rock, but it was given to me on a Celtic folk tape, so I figure someone might recognize it. :) Anyway. The song "Leis an Sael" is by a group called Technoque, and I was wondering if anyone had the lyrics, and maybe even the translation? Slán, Kiwi |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Jim Dixon Date: 08 Apr 06 - 07:54 PM I can't find a band called Technoque, and I can't find the phrase "leis an sael" anywhere on the Internet (except here in this thread). Google, however, gives several hits on "Leis an seal" but, being unable to read Gaelic myself, I can't tell whether this is helpful. |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: diesel Date: 09 Apr 06 - 01:17 AM Hi Others will be more helpful on this - but for tuppence worth; Spelling first is 'Technogue' and 'leis an saol' Seriously good Seán Nós singer Iarla O Lionáird teamed up with Ingmar Kiang to produce the group/project 'technogue'. Words to the song - Sorry - I can't find, but try the following sites; http://www.folkworld.de/4/iarla.html http://www.innerviews.org/inner/iarla.html http://www.iarla-o-lionaird.net/ rgds Diesel |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Declan Date: 09 Apr 06 - 02:39 PM Leis an saol literally translates as "with life" or "with the life". If anyone can post the gaelic lyrics I might be able to help to translate them. It is not necessary to translate the lyrics into english to enjoy a song in Gaelic, but I know people who do not speak gaelic like to know what the lyrics of a song mean. |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Apr 06 - 11:03 PM The band is Tecnogue, and the song is LEIS AN SAOL. It's on the album "Ireland: The Greatest Songs Ever," Petrol 032. There is a description of the album at Petrol Records, an Australian company. In the US, the same (apparently) album is available on the TimeLife label. Both of those sites have sound samples, but the samples don't include any singing. |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Vixen Date: 11 Apr 06 - 01:33 PM Kind of off-topic...but if "leis an" means (roughly) "with [the]" could someone tell me what Leis An Lurgainn means? It's the chorus of a sea-song performed by Dougie Maclean, and an ear-worm it is if ever there was one. Thanks, V |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: Declan Date: 11 Apr 06 - 02:17 PM Vixen Loch Lorgan is an Irish name for Galway Bay. Difficult to know what it means without a bit more context but it could mean beside Galway Bay. |
Subject: RE: Leis an Sael - lyrics? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 11 Apr 06 - 04:10 PM Leis an Lurgainn means With the Lurgainn. The Lurgainn being the ship's name. Up above I have linked to a shortened form of the song with a few verses. If someone wants, I'll type up the whole thing some time. |
