Mmmmm. looks like not(or not any that want to say hello to me anyway). Anway in case any turn up later, I'll put our itineray. here:
Fri 16 (Corporate function, Cork).
Tue 22 Charlie's Bar, Union Quay, Cork.
Fri 25 Long Point Bar, Whitegate, Co Cork.
Sat 26 Cape Clear Island(off Baltimore, Co Cork)
Sun 27 Paddy Mac's,Ardmore,Co Waterford.
Mon 28 (Listening to Hank and Ray at Charlie's Bar).
The band for the tour is a one-off pick-up group: me and Kate from the Boat Band, plus Ray and Geraldine Barron from the Cork band Twotime Polka.
Anybody know of anything going on relaxing and fun on our days off(preferably West Cork on or near a beach) get in touch, should be able to access a computer in a day or two in Cork.

Corkmen, Greg, are famous not just in Ireland - osis the Union, for one-up-man-ship, sooo today since travel and the Internet have broadened their horizons, you'd be lucky to find a spot where one of them left it - if you know what I'm talking about - anywhere in the entire province.

Enjoy the tourist season and keep sober if you drive!

I have no intention of driving an inch, sorefingers! I spend the rest of the year driving to gigs, this fortnight I will be driven to them. Glory be.

Oh I know, never mind the rain after the first few pints you won't notice it, while there will be so much talk about football, horses and G W Bush that you'll forget entirely about Folkmusic.

Now how many crows can you get with one barrell?

I was confused about which month you were going, but on closer examination the first date was a typo. Take a dander down tot the Old Head of Kinsale if you get a day off and the weather's half decent.

Unfortunately the Old Head of Kinsale is now off bounds to the hoi-polloi. It has become an exclusive golf club for the super rich. Yhis beautiful landmark was used by generations of Corkonians and visitors for walking, birdwatching, whalewatching, angling, courting etc. Unfortunately the Supreme Court decided that this did not constitute a right of way because of some old feudal legislation and so the local authority's wish to have public access allowed has been rendered nil and void. It's a f---ing scandal. I've nothing against exclusive golf-clubs in principle, but when private monied interests are allowed to acquire one of the south coast's national treasures against the greater public interest then something is very wrong with our planning legislation.

Sorry Greg, this is not the sort of stuff you wanted to hear, but Fionn's recommendation can only be enjoyed if you want to see the Old Head from afar. There was even a small car-park at the entrance and this has now been removed.

Anyway enjoy your visit, unfortunately the rain's been deluging down in Cork today.

played the first gig tonight, just got back to base in Cork city. The most user friendly gig on the itinerary looks like Cape |Clear, Saturday 26. Get a ferry from Baltimore and a good time will be had by all.It will be a friendly do, anyone who wants to sing a song can be fitted in,I'm sure. It's not been a great year for the tourist trade, they will be glad to see visitors.

Devastated to hear that, Guest Learaí na Láibe. You've made me realise that it's many years since I was there last, before which I was there often.

It was always privately owned, as I recall. The last time there, the gates were open and being slightly pushed for time, we drove right down to the head, passing two guys painting railings, who paused to wave and smile. When we passed them on the way out they waved and smiled again. When we got back to the gate it was locked. Rather than face the two painters, my chum tried to open the gate at the other end, by lifting it off its hinges. It didn't work, and he finished up covered in paint, the gate having just been given a fresh coat.

We went back to the painters who were of course waiting for us, but so apparently busy with their work that they managed to ignore us for several minutes. Eventually one of them pointed out that we were trespassing. We pointed out that we would be delighted to stop trespassing, and some haggling ensued. Eventually it was agreed that I would drive one of them up to the gate to unlock it on condition that my passenger took his place painting the railings. Their ingenuity found one or two more ways to exploit the situation before they at last took pity and released us, and we parted on the best of terms.

We were bang out of order that day of course, but it is surely a crime to deny public access to so spectacular a peninsula. I hope all their golf balls go over the cliffs.

Anyway, sorry to run away with your thread, Greg. Glad you're enjoying the trip. Don't see how you could have failed to.

You are still going to make it to Sidmouth for the 4 August reunion session in the Volunteer Garden Marquee, I hope?

Kitty

PS I was in Cork/ Kerry a couple of weeks ago and it drizzled quite a lot.

Subject: Cork sean-nos singers?
From: GUEST,Micheal
Date: 20 Jun 05 - 06:45 PM

I will be in Cork, Ireland first weeks in September on a trip. I'm interested in sean-nos singing.
I have one question. Is there any place in town where Cork Singers Club members or
Cork sean-nos singers usually gather and sing? Any guidance you can provide is appreciated.

Try contacting the organiser of the Cork Singers Club, whose name is at the bottom of
THIS PAGE

Also, the Cork Folk Festival runs this year from 2-11 September - website HERE

Look in the Cobh Maritime Festival thread for further possible leads.

Hope you enjoy your visit!

Thanks, Bonnie. I'll contact the organizer of the Cork Singers Club.
As regards the Cork Folk Festival, I'm wondering when the final schedule
(venues, time, etc.) will be decided usually. Will it be as late as
August or in July? Anyhow, I'll try to ask around. Thanks again.
