Subject: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: MikeT Date: 19 Jul 03 - 01:43 PM Hello all, I usually lurk on the Cat, but I have something I want to post. I am not sure if this is appropriate to post on the regular music section or not, so I am erring on the side of caution and posting this on the BS side, where I have seen other political posts. I am a Vermonter and really excited about Gov. Dean's candidacy. In fact I have not been so motivated since 1968 when I went door to door for Gene McCarthy. Anyway, since the Governor is running as an old-style Democrat, I decided that he needs an old-style Democrat campaign song. I can think of no finer tune to use than the old Joe Hill, I.W.W. song 'The Preacher and the Slave, or Pie in the Sky.' What do you think? I have written three verses, and hope there will be others written. Here it is: Dean's the One Sung to the tune of 'The Preacher and the Slave', or 'Pie in the Sky' By Joe Hill Republicans come out every night. Try and tell us what's wrong and what's right. Gather round if you hold the truth dear. I have news that will make you cheer. Chorus: Howard Dean is the one. He's the man who can get the job done. Share the dream. Vote for Dean. Take America back, our time's come. (shout) Dean's the One! If you'd rather have butter than guns, Come along, join us now, share our love. When we all come together and sing, In our voices I hear freedom ring. Chorus Democrats of our country unite. Side by side for the truth we will fight. When the White House and the Congress we have gained, To the world we will sing this refrain: Last chorus: Howard Dean is the one. He's our man and we got our job done. This land is yours, and it's mine. Now America's back. Our time's come. (shout) Dean's the one! |

Subject: RE: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: Alice Date: 12 Oct 03 - 01:36 PM Well, there are lots of parodies that Deanites are writing, posted to the Dean blog, and here is one for the Halloween season: Thanks to "Cavegal" To the tune of the Monster Mash BUSH WAS LEAVING FOR VACATION EARLY ONE NIGHT, WHEN HIS EYES BEHELD A FRIGHTENING SIGHT. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DANCIN' IN THE STREET, WHAT WERE THEY DOING THERE? WHAT WAS THAT BEAT? (THEY DID THE MASH.) THE VERMONTSTER MASH (VERMONTSTER MASH) IT'S A NATIONAL SMASH. (VERMONTSTER MASH) IT'S RAISING CARLOADS OF CASH. (THEY DID THE MASH.) THE VERMONTSTER MASH. SO HE CALLED ROVE AND RUMMY TO THE OVAL ROOM, WITH CONDI AND COLIN AND HE LOWERED THE BOOM. ASHCROFT SAW US DANCIN' AND HE HAD TO ASSUME. "THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO COULD SPELL OUR DOOM." (WE DID THE MASH.) THE VERMONTSTER MASH (VERMONTSTER MASH) IT'S RAISING OODLES OF CASH. (WE DID THE MASH) IT'S NO PAN FULL OF FLASH. (VERMONTSTER MASH) IT'S THE VERMONTSTER MASH. THE DEANIACS WERE HAVING FUN. (WAA-OOO) BUT WE KNEW WE HAD ONLY BEGUN. (WAA-OOO) IT'S TAKEN TOO MANY YEARS TO KICK OUT, (WAA-OOO) GEORGE BUSH AND HIS SONS. TELL YOUR GREAT GRAND KIDS YOU WERE A PART OF THE SCENE, WHEN BUSH AND HIS FRIENDS WERE BURSTING A SPLEEN. AS THE BACK DOOR OPENED TO THE BLACK LIMOSINE, AND OUT STEPPED PRESIDENT HOWARD DEAN. (YOU DID THE MASH.) THE VERMONTSTER MASH (VERMONTSTER MASH) IT WAS A NATIONWIDE SMASH. (WE DID THE MASH) AT THE INNAUGURAL BASH. (WE'LL DO THE MASH.) THE VERMONTSTER MASH WAA-OOOO! OUT THE WAA-ZOOO... fade... |
Subject: RE: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: Charley Noble Date: 12 Oct 03 - 05:05 PM Not sure if you'll welcome songwriting advice BUT: If you'd rather have butter than guns, Come along, join us now, share our love. Might sing better as: If you'd rather have butter than guns, Come along, join us now, share our fun (puns). Well, anyway, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: GUEST,pdq Date: 12 Oct 03 - 07:46 PM Here is a natural, Captain Howard Dean and his Ship of Fools: Went to see the captain, strangest I could find Laid my proposition down, laid it on the line I won't slave for beggar's pay, likewise gold and jewels But I would slave to learn the way to sink your ship of fools Chorus Ship of fools on a cruel sea Ship of fools sail away from me It was later than I thought when I first believed you But now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools Saw your first ship sink and drown from rocking of the boat And all that could not sink of swim were just left there to float I won't leave you drifting down but whoa it makes me wild With thirty years upon my head to have you call me child [chorus] The bottle stand is empty now, as they were filled before Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools |
Subject: RE: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: Mrrzy Date: 13 Oct 03 - 11:41 AM I still think a simple slogan would be best - how about Let's Not Elect Him The First Time? |
Subject: RE: BS: Campaign song for Howard Dean From: LadyJean Date: 14 Oct 03 - 12:47 AM I'm working on the campaign. If Dean is elected, he will owe his presidency to a gang of brownie bakers, bloggers, and other ordinary joes (and Jeans.) instead of big money and special interests. You have to like that idea. |
